SWR Amp/Speaker Question

Sign in to disble this ad
Here is the set up: SWR-SM 500 Amp (SMF 0208 1970 these numbers were below a tiny bar code). Speakers are 8 ohm Ampeg SVT 15E and an 8 ohm Avatar 210. Per owner’s manual, amp is listed as: twin-power amps with two mode of operation, Bridge (mono) 500 watts at 4 ohms, stereo mode, 250 watts (per side at 4 ohms).
I’m pretty sure I can go “bridge” mode going from the amp (mono output) into SVT15E and out to the 210 cab, maximizing the 500 watts and presenting a 4 ohm total load. Am I okay with this set up? Anything I missed? Any disadvantage to this set up?
I’m unsure of the stereo (right/left channels) mode at 4 ohm minimum. Will the two 8 ohm speakers work in this configuration? What are my best options for running both cabinets? BTW, I’m aware of possible phasing issues with mismatched speaker sizes. I’m hoping for the best on this.
Thanks in advance to the TB community. You are always so helpful and sorry about the long-winded nature of this post.

If you have the ability to lower the volume of the most sensitive cab to match the other one in stereo mode, I'd use the 8Ωs per side option, but if you can't do that, it won't matter, since you'll send 250 watts to each cab anyway.

Yes, the bridge option you mentioned will work as you described.
