SWR Baby Blue II problem

Sign in to disble this ad
I have an old SWR Baby Blue II (the one with two 8" speakers) which has a problem. The pre amp clip light always stays on...other than that the amp sounds fine. Sometimes the clip light will actually go off, but this can be after 15min or so.

Does anyone know what the problem might be?

I have attached a picture.

Thanks,
Nathan

Other than the light being on, does it sound/behave normally?

At low volumes its fine. But pushing the head it breaks up in a weird way.

I think an amp tech is going to have to take a look at it. Hopefully its an easy fix.

Yes, I think you are right. Possibly a bad tube?

Tried replacing the tube, same problem. Its probably a bad cap or something....hopefully nothing worse.

Had a bad cap after years of service. It slowly lost it's great sound and gained a hum. Now it's back to it's lovely self. I may consider that scoopless mod. But as is it's the best.
I've been through speaker changes as my Bag Ends failed, to be replaced by Celestions to be replaced by long throw LDSs. All three had their own rich characteristics.
So, take it to a good tech.
