SWR Basic Black Extension Speaker?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi

I have an mid-90's SWR Basic Black, which I've been really happy with over the years. However, it seems like it's losing power, though it could be different basses (I'm now mostly playing a friend's through it at rehearsal).

I know when I've tried extension speakers, that boosts the power alot. What extension speaker would people pair with this? I play a wide variety of styles, I mostly like a vintage sound, pretty warm and dry. The other day I played a Ampeg SVT-CL through an Acoustic 6x10 (with a great '73 P) and I just loved it, so the closer I could get to that would be awesome. Would it help to throw a VT Expression pedal in front too? Would that boost the signal?

Thanks, Eric

I've not used the VT, but I did use a SABDDI in conjunction with my old bassic black. It helped majorly in getting more usable volume. It provided a little compression that allowed me to run the amp a little hotter without hitting the clipping range. I also used an extension cab upon occasion, but not very often. Honestly by the time I was bringing the combo and an extension cab, I was at the level of cartage that I found it easier to just bring a 410 and head. Wound up moving my bassic black with the idea that I'd use the money from the sale to look for a more compact upright friendly combo. Spent the money.... figures.

That 15 year old 12AX7 may be wearing out on you. Try a new high quality tube in there. An old Sylvania gives a nice driven sound, in my experience.
