Exclamation SWR Big Ben Cab

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey I was wondering about the SWR Big Ben 18" bass cab. Im thinking of buying one for $200. Its about 8yrs old and i was wondering....I have an Ibanez ATK300 bass and im thinking of putting a SWR head on it. From what Ive heard this cab is great for lows but i was wondring if it would be unrealistic to try and get a nice metallic punk sound out of it like nofx, rancid, antiflag, the souls? ive hada behringer combo amp foreven and never used a real combo before. Any informatiion would help alot thanks. Heres a picture of it.....

IMO something like a 4x10 would suit your style of music better. Usually punk bassists (without trying to profile) use alot of treble, and high end, to get that unique picking punk bass sound. This thing might sound a little muddy for that type of playing. Hope this helps.

I haven't used that cab specifically, but the bass players of all those bands definitely have a lot of high end happening. A jazz bass through a sansamp (or behringer bdi21 if you're on a budget) will help too, especially for the bouncing souls tone.

The price is good and I have a lot of faith in SWR gear. However, I think that it is designed to be used with a 4 x 10 box. At that price you can't go wrong, but you need a 2 x 10 or a 4 x 10 to go with it

That is a very cool cab. I had a chance to buy one just like it 8-9 yrs ago for $150 and passed. I regret it to this day.
