SWR Goliath 8 ohms

Sign in to disble this ad
I 'm thinking in purchasing a SWR 550x and a cabinet 410 goliath 8 ohms that I found with a excellent price. My doubt is if the cabinet 8 ohms works perfectly with the SWR 4 ohms. In the future I will get another cabinet for working together ( 4x10 or 1x15, I don't know yet wich speaker) but for a while I was thinking in use this one only (410 goliath 8 ohms)
Someone can help me?

Thanx

Reynaldo

The 8 ohm cab will be fine with the 550x. The amp will work perfectly with any load higher than 4 ohms. But more ohms means less power will come from the amp.

To get all 550 watts you will need 4 ohms. With 8 ohms the amp gives 375 watts. This should be ok unless your band is loud or in a very big room with no PA system.

I had a 4 ohm Goliath III that I liked very much.

Hope this helps.

nick's spot on. to be honest, there won't be a night and day volume difference between a 4 ohm and an 8 ohm goliath. I'm a big fan of 8 ohm cabinets for the simple reason that you can add another, and believe me, two 8 ohm goliaths will be louder than a 4 ohm one.

just to be clear, it won't be twice as loud, but you'll hear the difference. If you can, check out two 8 ohm ones vs a single 8 or 4 ohm one just to see what i mean.

Hey Mike, great. Now, I'm sure that is a great deal. So in this opinion two 8 ohms goliath ( 4x10, for example) should be perfect. I will do that. Thanx , my friend

The two cabs will move more air and hence be louder. I should say though that for a good few years I ran a Hartke HA7000 into a 4ohm Goliath III (less power than the 550X into 4 ohms) and never felt too quiet.

Unless you are doing big places with no PA the 550X plus one 4 ohm Goliath should be plenty.

If I was to spend your money for you I would go for a 4x10 and a 2x10. Then you have 3 rigs for the price of one. 2x10 for small rooms / rehearsal, 4x10 for 80% of gigs and the full 6x10 4 ohm set up when you need to shake the walls.

I ran the SWR 550 for years with a 10 pc horn band and I ran it through a 4 ohm 610 Goliath Sr. I was an awesome rig.

I have always been a 4 ohm cab guy because I wanted maximum power out of one cab. I also always thought that a single 8 ohm cab would not be loud enough. I was wrong for a long time.

I have been running a single 4 ohm 210 cab for most of my gigging for many years but have been recently converted. I have seen the light and now agree that 8 ohm cabs are the way to go. You have more versatility in how you can run them and I really do not think I can hear the difference in running my heads through 4 or 8 ohm cabs.

I am running my GK 700 RB II through an 8 ohm Goliath or a 4 ohm Goliath Jr. I would like to find another Goliath 8 ohm to run with the other when I play out doors.
