Question SWR GoLight 4x10 (4ohm)

Sign in to disble this ad
Anyone out there using this cab on gigs? Also, please chime in if you've used the actual SWR Goliath 4x10 cab prior to using the GoLight. How was the bottom end of the GoLight? I'm curious because it has the neo speakers, and I keep reading that they don't provide enough bottom end.

The magnet material has no effect on how a driver handles low frequencies.

Played my first gig with a 4 ohm GoLight last weekend having played for years with non-neo speakers (i.e. HEAVY ones!) - plenty of low end, plenty of power handling (GK 1001RB head), tight - and my back loves it.

+1. The only advantage of ceramic over neo is price.

Neo has a sort of advantage over ceramic in low end area because you can get better heat sinking in, due to small, which means less power compression, don't think is super relevant to bass guitar as much as it is to PA.

I've used the Goliath and Eden 4x10s for the last 20 years and now use the Golight cabs (2x10/4x10) and I'm happy with them. I like the sealed MM 4x10 better than the ported 2x10.

I've read that the MM 4x10 is a punch monster and I'd imagine it would have nice thick low mids but does it have enough low end presence to make it a good cab for 5-string or would the ported 4x10 be better.

It's a preference thing. I hear a lot of people say that sealed cabs don't work for low B. I play 5-strings exclusively and like the sound that the sealed Golight 4x10 provides. It's enough to rattle things off the walls. That's enough for me

I used a Goliath III for long enough to really get to know it. I felt like it didnt handle B string range as well as other cabs.

I spent some time on a GoLight and my opinion is that it handles lows noticeably better than the GIII.

Can anyone else confirm this? I wouldn't be surprised if they engineered these newer cabs to handle B better, since it was a weakness of older models.
