I have a Goliath II cab, in which I replaced all 4 speakers (blown coils) and installed BP102-4 speakers into it. The cab rocks and has more low end than I know what to do with.
I may be looking for another 4x10 to put on top of it. I'd love to get another GII, but they are all 8 ohm-ers (I converted mine to 4-ohm for use with my SVT). I can't really use an 8-ohm cab.
Enter the GoLight series which are available in 8 or 4-ohm. Which model would be a better top-cab, the standard 4x10 (ported) or the Marcus Miller 4x10 (sealed)?
I like that the MM cab is the same size as the G II, being 23 x 23 x 18.375. The ported cab is taller at 25", but I can deal with that I guess.

I also have a GII and a GIII, which I've been known to use together(sounds great). Since the ported Golight sounds exactly the same to me as the GIII, the GII/Golight combo should be money.

Because the new cabs are both likely to have a different phrase response than your modded cab.
If I like the tone enough, then I would go find another used GII and mod it the same way.
But if the single GII is already more than what you know to do with, then why are you looking to add a second cab?

| | Supporting Member | | | | | I just bought a GoLight 410 ported cab on the internet due to all the positive info people
had shared on the net and absolutely do NOT like it! Wanna buy it??
What is it that people like about these cabs anyway?
It sounds like I have a bunch of speakers trapped in a cedar chest!
You said what?? Mwa mwa mwa... what?? mwa mwa mwa...
It has some bass to it though... but to me, it's not complete in its sound.
Never owned any Goliaths, so I have no idea there.
I can say for sure that I liked my Avatar 410 better, but that too left my home for good. |

I owned all four for a few weeks, and set them up side by side. I disagree that they sound the same. The Golights have a little bit more down in the 40-60 range, a little less aggressive in the mids, and nowhere near as clanky on the highs, as if they had improved the horn. To me, this is all an improvement. I like my Golights much better than my GIIIs. Very happy with the switch here. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
