SWR Megoliath + Big Ben - Am I the only one?
For about 10 years I've had an SWR Megoliath as my only cab with no complaints, until recently my son was born and the room I was using as practice space became a nursery. So the Megoliath and head had to move to the bonus room. For whatever reason, my wife wasn't a big fan of the new additions to the decor, so I set out to downsize, more or less. The original plan was to use a 2x10 or 4x10 as the practice cab and pair it with a 1x18 or 1x15 that I could just store for gigging. Around the time that I found a good deal on an SWR Big Ben, I moved my practice space to the garage and my wife suggested I just skip the hassle of trying to sell the 8x10 and go with the giant combo of 8x10 + 1x18. To be honest it hadn't even occurred to me, but I've got to say, I love the way this sounds, and this combo gets LOUD. The Megoliath, which can get low and loud, has never really brought the wall shaking boom the way that the 18" driver does. At any rate, I started looking around online and haven't seen any evidence of anyone else doing this. Am I the only one? Is it just ridiculous overkill? I haven't tried to move both cabs and the rack yet, so maybe that will be when I really find out if this is worth it. Also, it confirmed that I married the right girl. It's a win-win situation! http://www.flickr.com/photos/101252514@N07/9669600906/

I'm sure this rig kills. I'm also sure I wouldn't want to load it up at 1:30 in the morning after a 4 hour gig. I will, however, confirm that you married the right girl!

Megoliath is one of the most beastly cabs ever designed.

A word of warning if I may. A 1x15 or a 1x18 cannot keep up with a 4x10 let alone an 8x10. It will eventually fail.
