SWR S.O.B : dead 15" which Neo driver replacement?

Sign in to disble this ad
Need a replacement 15" driver for a SWR Son of Bertha cabinet.

I am planning on an Eminence Neo 3015 or 3015LF
The size of this cabinet is similar to a Berg HT115.
This cab is a two-way with a tweet cross-over at 3.5khz.

The 3015 looks like a good choice except that I'm not crazy about the upper mid hump around 1-2khz.
I will be using this cabinet in combination with either a single 10" or two 10" cabinet so I don't want much clashing going on in the upper mids. Both of these cabs with 10's are pretty efficient as well.

I may also elect to use this as a small sub if the internal dimensions support the 3015LF and cross it over actively somewhere between 100-180hz with 350 watts.

Does billfitzmaurice have time for a comment? Anyone?

Internal: 21.5 X 16.5 x 16 .....additionally the port is 17 x 2 x 20.5

Depends on how many watts you want and what purpose it's used for. Using it alone or paired with another cab?

Have a 8 ohm 2/10 on top......probably will hit each cabinet with 300-500 watts each. Thanks for your response.

3015, non-LF. Beachaudio has had it the cheapest historically I think there's a new player, might check the fEarful thread.

rpsands, you think the 3015 would work for the HT115 as well?
I have no idea where the 15" and horn crossover in the HT115 thou

FWIW, the cab(s) will be in a modular stack between 1x to 4x

Don't know without the measurements. It looks like it's closer to the 3015LF's size/port area, but really no way to tell without dimensions.

I've tossed the 3015 in several different cabs in the last couple years. A Boogie Diesel 1x15, an Ampeg SVT15E, a Genz Benz 115B, and a Fender M80 combo. That speaker sounds great in everything I've used it in. Now that I think of it, I've sold some of those cabs but hung on to the speaker... Of course, I'm not knowledgeable enough to know if the speaker is actually performing optimally for its design in these various applications, but my ears say thumbs up! I wouldn't hesitate to try it in the Son of Bertha cab.
