I've found that my Musicman basses put out a ton of low end compared to my other basses. It is kind of "hidden" low end though.
If you play normally it sounds pretty flat or even kind of thin. But the harder I play, the more bass comes out. Contrast this with my other basses which crunch as you play harder, or do that two pickup phase cancelly thing (EG Ovation Magnum).
This bit me pretty bad because I had the opposite impression of Stingrays from bedroom playing. But the first time I played my ray at concert level with a band I was just flattening everything with low end.
Oh turn the bass down, weird.
