SWR SM-400 Settings recommendation

I need some ideas for the settings. I mostly play rock and metal, but i prefer a fairly clean tone, as I get some awesome overdrive with a pedal. The amp sounds kinda dull.......so any help would be greatly appreciated.

This amp has a LOT of EQ..maybe too much..so it is easy to screw the sound out of sight, IMV.s

Two keys areas to trip up are the bass control and the enhancer.
I never run the bass control over half way (12)... there is so much extended bass there that a) it is unusable, and b) a power soak.

The enhancer should be between 11 and 1 and no more, IME.
I generally run the lower para level around flat, but it might be an idea to set all the para levels at 0 and just get to grips with the bass control and treble with the enhancer
first.

I find the amp runs VERY hot but this has never been a problem if reasonably vented.

This amp has great low end..but see above.. and sparkly hi's and I can't understand the description as dull.
I think the mid capability could be pretty servere on a dull old set of strings but this is a classic amp, IMV..which is why I wont get rid on mine...with very powerful EQ.

Use it sparingly for the best results, IMHO.

FWIW. I run Jazz5's through an SM400, bridged, into a SonofBertha 15, with the horn down, plus a Goli jnr lll with horn in at 2-3..
I have replaced the damaged PAS chasis with Deltalites 2510 and just need to re-tune the cab for best use.

This rig can produce a huge sound that underpins the band. It is probably too much for me in that regard but the band love it.

SWR and the Jazz tone are a fantastic match and hard to beat.

These amps produce extremely full range sound and can also cause problems with severe low frequency reproduction that is filtered by many other brands; pulling 30 hz with the EQ still allows dangerous amounts of speaker excusion to continue IMO

Use the search function; there are numerous threads; I set the bass knob very low (maybe 2-4 clicks from off) and adjust the low end with the semi parametric

Agree with the above regarding the enhancer
Have had one for over 20 years; not my favorite amp but very good and a true work horse

Agreeed that the
