SWR Studio 220 Head: + Amp or Streamliner?

Sign in to disble this ad
Looking for opinions...although probably no one has any of those here...

My SWR Studio 220 head has been my first and only bass amp for the last 10 years or so. It works fine for low volume practices and small gigs. I can't say I'm unhappy with the sound, but, it definitely lacks the authority I witnessed when I teamed it up with a bandmate's 600 watt power amp.

So, I'm debating whether to buy a new power amp, like the Peavey IPR 1600, and keep using the Studio 220, or just going all out and buying a Streamliner 900.

The rest of my rig is an SWR Triad (15" + 10" + horn) and an SWR Goliath Jr II (two 10"s and a horn), and a Pedulla MVP bass. Basic rock and roll, plus some backup for acoustic singer/songwriter stuff.

Opinions?

, you'd be surprised.

My vote goes for a separate power amp for the lows. The 200 ish watts is more than enough for the highs.

IMLE the newer amps aren't quite like the ST220 and SM400.
