SWR Workingman's amp tuner out

Is there a specific reason the tuner out jack on SWR Workingman's amp is plastic? Is it just a money saving move? Mine is broken and I want to put in a regular 1/4" jack.

Nothing prevents You from swapping the jack as long as all the possible contacts are the same. Quite a few manucfaturers use jacks that use one or more of the switch contacts found on many jacks.
