I have mine mounted in a rack case, and that helped some, but ultimately I think replacing the fan with a more quiet one is about the only good fix.

Now if I could just find out which ones would work.

Hi.

Since the amp in question is not likely the first choice for someone who's into modding amps, the size and the type of the fan would help tremendously.

One option would be obviously installing a fan speed regulating circuit, but that's just one more thing that can malfunction.

It's funny though, the "old" SWR amps that didn't have fans as a specific design point, get complaints for running hot, and the newers that have them, get complaints for the fan noise. Looks like a no-win situation to me .

Regards
Sam

Different companies make the cooling fans used in amps, there isn't reslly a such thing as an "swr fan". Of course it has to be the right size, move at least as much air as yours does (CFM) and any good one will have a db noise level spec that tells you how loud it runs. Lower db = quieter, just like speakers.

Like this. Thermocool 110 VAC Fan 120 x 38mm Ball Bearing 72 CFM 250-020

Not saying that's the particular fan you need, just using it as an example.

Yes! Like most of us with fan cooled amplifiers you ignore it! I don't even notice the fans on my amps. Changing the fan for a low turbulence one is an option but if you get it wrong your amp dies.

Here's the tech specs for the fan that's in the amp.

Part Datasheet

based on that finding a silent fan shouldn't be too hard.
