Tabulating the population of fEARfuls/nEarfuls

Sign in to disble this ad
Curious how many are out there.

fEARfuls are mostly true to specifications published by GreenBoy.

nEarfuls are similar concepts and usually come from boutique builders such as LDS or the new TB153 from Avatar.

Should there be other categories on the poll?

I have a home built fEarful. I made a couple mistakes in construction though that make it a nEarful. My internal volume is off

I'd call it a fEARful based on your description. Your intent was righteous.

I had a near-spec 12/6 for quite a while, but now I'm back to my funny looking FArfuls.

I bought Passinwind's 12/6. Looking to build/buy a 1515/66 at some point in the future. No need for one, I just want it.

I knew there was something else! Can't seem to edit the poll; does anyone know if that can be altered midstream?

That's a BSX Model 2000, which has been superseded by their Allegro and T models. I bought it off TB around 7 years ago, and it's been my main daily player ever since then.

Here's a sound clip of what it sounds liked bowed, through an older 15/6/1 cab of mine.

My 15/6/1 Stubbies

Here are my nEarful 15/6/1 Stubbies. I used the 12/6 cube idea with the fEarful 15/6/1 to get a stack that would fit between the wheel wells of my SUV. That's the only way I can fit them along with my PA system and bass. Footprint for the stack is 48"h x 21"w x 18"d. Internal volume for each cab is halfway between the fEarful 15/6 and Carvin LS1503 so I kept the same port volume but adjusted shelf depth to tune for 48 Hz with an F3 of 50 Hz. Their main use is for our practice PA driven by a Crown XTi 4000 but sound great for bass and keys as well. Very pleased with how this worked out.

Sold my LDS 1515/66/1 the other week. I currently have a Headcase (18 Sound 6ND410/18 Sound XT125 w/Carvin 1503 x/over) built by Vlad. Didn't see a Headcase voting option, either. It sounds incredible with an old Eden 18" cab I have.

I also have a Carvin 1503/3015LF, which checks the nEarful box. It might be a nEarful, but it doesn't sound nAwful at all- it sounds great!

Got something else in the works, but it's a surprise.
