TC Elec Classic 450 incoming

Hi
Quick update following the death of my Hartke 3500.

Following recommendation from local owners of a classic 450 and a test drive myself yesterday, looks like this is the head to replace my Hartke.

Will match with a RS 210, hopefully will have enough guts for med size pub gigs. Seen the traffic re watts but seemed loud enough when heard in action at a gig last week and in the shop yesterday. Big criteria for cab was able to fit in my car boot.

Bit of a shortage apparently here in UK so having to be patient.

If play bigger venues will DI to PA and use as a monitor.

Any comments from owners appreciated especially re one 210 having enough guts. Coming from an 410 so will be a bit twitchy until get to rehearse at stage volume to make sure it cuts through usual drummer & 2 guit mix.

Will keep you posted

Cheers Eggy

The volume is definately there on these amps.
It will get ear-thumpingly loud.

The RS210 is a great cab IMO, I have done a couple of gigs with it leaving the RS212 at home. There will of course be limits for what a single 2x10 can do, but that cab is quite capable and sounds great. Should be a nice rig!

Opinions will differ. In my opinion and experience, one RS210 doesn't have enough oomph for me to feel comfortable standing next to moderately loud drummer. In order to be loud enough, it seems like it's right at the edge of its capabilities and strained. That's my main group and the volumes we play at. YMMV.

I've done a bit of singles, mixing and matching between 2 RS210s and 2 RS212s (1, 2 and 3 cab setups). I usually end up going with a single RS212 or 2x RS212.

I usually bring my RS210 and RS212, but its probably overkill. I play between two 50 watt Marshall half stacks and I run at about 4 or 5 on MV and have no problems.

IMO a single 2x10 is insufficient for an average gig. I ALWAYS use a pair in a vertical stack. (see avatar)

That said with only 236W available and the built in compression algorithms perhaps in TC's case it might.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I am starting to sway towards just biting the bullet and getting two 210's. If I don't store them in the same room the missus might not notice.

Also, have moved from the classic to the RH450.

About to pull trigger, would normally try to get gear from Bass Merchant in Colchester but he not able to get any stock till end of November and have gig before then.

Looking at other internet sites, there seems to be a squeeze on stock of these here in the UK. I know the 750 recently released, has anyone heard any rumour about the 450 being discontinued or updated so current stocks running down?

Don't want to have an Apple moment, buy some kit and within weeks a newer shinier version around.

Thanks again

I tried both the RS210 and the RS212 at Sam Ash the other day and thought the cabs sound amazing. I'm looking for a small compact 4x10 so after hearing both of these cabs I ordered a BC410. I hope this cab sounds as good as the RS cabs.

It's arrived !

Went back to original plan of Classic 450 and matched with RS210. Arrived yesterday but did not have time to unpack it all and have a play as was out rehearsing last night

Got to get work out of the way today

Small hiccup with original order, retailer took delivery and then sold it out from under me before the arranged collection. So ordered online from GAK and arrived good as gold 24 hours later.

Will play it at volume at next week's rehearsal to see how the single cab works out.

Thanks for everyone's advice and will let you know my impressions after a play.

Hi,
and so the promised impressions of the Classic 450 and RS210

To start at the end. Love it. Nice sound to (my ear) minor tweaking of the mids (up a bit) a little bit of compression and a tiny dose of the "tube" and we are away. compression does a nice job of balancing out the strings

Nice and portable. Simple controls that are effective

Played at rehearsal at gig volume and was plenty of power with just the one 210. Good feed back from the rest of the guys.

One comment would be lack of feet on the cab. I guess designed to allow "skin to skin" stacking but fear the base could pick up marks and scratches from floors, car parks etc. Friend of mine has had to drill and post fit some feet to his. will try the rubber mat route and see how it goes.

Not plugged into PA yet, first gig with it next week and am happy to rely on it working fine.

all in all a quality bit of kit and suits my needs.

<gas off>

Later
