| | | | Hey Guys, I have searched the thread and don't find anything on how the BG250 sounds with doublebass. (The only reference was an EUB, which not what I play.) I guess I'll ask again... Anyone with any experience using an (acoustic) upright bass with this nice looking little amp? I just got a real nice little coupon from Musicians Friend that I am anxious to take advantage of. Thanks again. Jim |

Jim | If the post you mentioned is the one I think it is, the fella plays an Eminence, which is an acoustic bass, although it definitely doesn't have the same dimensions as a regular DB. It may not be a precise 1-to-1 comparison, but I'd think it would at least be pretty informative.
I also double, so I'm keenly interested in how this combo would sound with an upright. I get the impression it'd be fine, especially if you run it through a Fishman Pro-Plat or something like that.

Since there was some paint and drywall directly on the amp, the cover must have ridden up some when it hit.
There was no tear or dent, but it did leave a light mark (it might rub out). I have no doubt that there would have been a cut and dent without the cover. Someone mentioned a bottom strap. Definitely something to consider when ordering. |

It might be that with the amount of space in there, a fan wouldn't be of much (any?) benefit. |

Thanks for the response. I use a couple of different pups on my upright. A transducer bridge pup, which I typically run through an LR Baggs preamp when using my Polytone and a Pierre Joseph String Charger which is nice when I need a lot of volume and no feedback.
I think I may just go ahead and order the BG250 and I'll keep you guys posted on my impressions with the upright.
Thanks again.

Welcome! I use a Upton RSII on mine, and I run it through either the Fishman Proplat or the FDeck HPF-Pre II into an amp.
As far as the BG250 goes, I played my P-Bass through it, and it sounded very good for that. The EQ section is well-designed and I think it's pretty versatile, so I'm betting it can work with a DB, even if you need an preamp with some additional EQ. If you decide to get one for a test-run, I'll be eager to know your thoughts on it!

I've never found on board effects to be very handy in any amp, guitar or bass. I don't really use them on my bass and for the most part I prefer my pedals to on board effects with my guitars.
I'd usually just set up one on board effect such as a compressor with the BG250 and if I wanted more I'd look to pedals to do the rest. That's pretty much the way I use my guitar amps as well. I'll usually use the on board reverb and everything else in on the pedal board.
To me changing those Tone Print options during the middle of a gig just seems like to much of a pain in rump.

Is that what you're hearing?
On my amp it's not audible through the headphones or when the mute switch is depressed or with the master or gain down or off. If it was fan noise wouldn't it be audible regardless?
Maybe we should see what the fellas at tc electronic have to say about it. It seems the symptoms are somewhat different from amp to amp.

The noise is absolutely normal and due to a combination of the fan and the specific transformer we have on the PSU.
I have the same on my unit here.
| Frankly, this is not a big issue... Far as I can recall, some amps got more noise coming through the speakers, and this is dead quiet from that side, also through the headphones... only got that faint hiss from the back... Guess my ears have been spoiled by GallienKrueger I previously owned.
Nice, practical, powerfull, little combo anyway! |

Nice, practical, powerfull, little combo anyway! | Thanks for doing the leg work. Pretty much as I thought. I can't even hear it standing in front of it in a quiet room unless I put my ear right in front the of the speaker. No one is gonna hear it at a gig.
But it does answer one other question. There is a fan.

From what I hear, it bowls me over that it has a fan. |

None of the compression or drive toneprints are available and only a few of the other categories are there. Anybody else having this issue? I have tried removing and reinstalling the app several times.
