The sound is more focused and more driving ... but I think it sounds a little harsh, so I don't know. My band, however, did like that it projected better so it's a mixed bag. I will gig this Saturday with it at a place with low ceilings so I will really test it out.

2) I got a comment from TCE tech support about using the Corona Chorus. Basically it said it works well with bass guitars and many bass players use it. Most importantly he said it WILL power two amps, so if somebody wanted to buy a second BG250 that would work, he said.

Remember that free chorus unit is available only until Dec. 31. I am still thinking about adding another BG250 and using the chorus unit to as an a/b box and to use the effects.

Thoughts??
I don't know why it would sound "harsh" because the basic tonality of the amp isn't voiced that way but then again it's a subjective term.

Are your EQ settings on your bass and the amp set to really boost the high end? Is the Tube Drive set very high? Are you using effects or playing stainless rounds? If that's the case you may be hearing the tweeter more with it up at that level than you would if it was on the floor.

Just thinking of things that would create more high end and grit which is what I might define as harsh. What you're hearing may be quite different though.

I think it would sound harsh because he's not used to hearing the bass so up close and personal. You're used to flapping your pant legs, and bombarding your ankles with all the tone, so it's quite a change when you tilt back.

Invest in a pair of good, musician earplugs. Etymotic Research sells some for less than $20 that cut frequencies evenly, so it's basically the sound of the band but quieter.

Hi folks,

From just this morning I have one of this. Bigger than I thought but not heavy at all. Sounds good althought I haven't played with the band and I haven't tested it against the drummer and the gitars.

As very early great impressions it has a great fidelity playing musin into the line in. The twitter is very smooth and play the charles greatly. Testing it at home with the bass makes mirrors vibrate.

I've already loaded the spectracomp compressor.

So far I really dig it. GC only had the floor model, but they're having a new-in-box amp shipped, and I can just swap them out when it arrives... I thought this was pretty cool.

I took it to practice last night: electric guitar, acoustic guitar, drums (and usually an accordion, but not last night). It had no trouble whatsoever with the volume, but it was a little muddy, although I have to spend some time with the EQ, admittedly. I'm using a P-Bass with flats, so I'm not getting brilliant highs, but then that's not necessarily what I'm going for. I just need to hear it some more to be sure it will truly put out an even sound across the bass range. I go for a vintage tone, but I don't want mud, and I don't want a mid boost that gets too much honk. There's another practice Sunday, so I'll have another chance to play with the EQ in a band setting soon.

I was trying to load the SpectraComp print via USB (I don't have an iPhone), and the toneprint wouldn't see the amp. I did the software update, and that was no problem, but the Toneprints didn't work via USB for some reason.

So far though, it's got a good sound, and I got some good compliments on it!

@McGryff, I had the same problem... As I can recall, wait for driver to completely install, update, whatever, and then start the toneprint. As with all the computer devices, if it doesn't succeed first time, restart and retry. "Comp in the middle" should help with muddy lows...

Definitely run the Spectracomp. My lows are nice. Not muddy at all. I'm using steel round DR's, though.

I have to be able to load the Spectracomp though... I had some trouble loading Toneprints, but I'll have another go at it, or else email TCE for help.

At what level do you put the knob for Spectracomp ?

By the way, I feel a better sound with the 'Comp in the Middle" playing my JazzBass. The bottom is more rounded.

Ditto; it seems much more at-home, immediately below the TCE sticker that came with my PolyTuner, on my Pedaltrain hard case.

Had the master volume not quite up to noon, at last night's gig (gain at 10 o'clock, DI not used) and was informed that it was too loud, in the audience. That made me quite happy.

I'm not sure. The amp is at our rehersal spot.

What was the size of the venue and of your band, if you don't mind sharing?

McGryff, I noticed that you specifically stated that you don't have an iphone. Do you have an android based smartphone? If you do, that'll work.

Are you sure the 2.0 software update ran successfully?

I'm almost positive it did, but there's probably no harm in trying to run it again, right? I think it worked because when I brought it home an octaver was loaded (this was a floor model), but after the software update it's got a chorus loaded. I'll re-download the installer, just to be sure, and try again. I just want a stinking compressor!

The tone's great though... one of the guys at the rehearsal asked if it's a tube amp.

If you bought your amp recently I dont think you need to update the software. I was loading the toneprints with the usb cable but I had to use my computer that has windows os, when I first tried with one that has linux it wouldnt work.

Ok got it to work. On the Mac, it seems the Toneprint apps like to reside on the actual drive, not on the disk image. When I dropped them onto the desktop it worked like a charm. I'm liking the "comp in the middle" and a couple choruses... Nathan East's and Chris Minh Doky's "widener." Neat stuff, and the "middle" comp works great for personal practice, and hopefully I'll get to see how it does at a band practice tomorrow. Thanks, guys!

Hello all. So her is my BG250 story. I needed an amp for a smaller gig I had that same night. I went into GC and tried the amp out quickly. I thought i sounded pretty good, so I went with it. The floor sample is all they had, so I got a pretty good discount. By the way, the amp looks absolutely new. I used the BG250 at the gig that same night and I was impressed! It was punchy as heck and had good power! It sounded better on the gig than at the store for sure. It is a freakin' killer deal for the price in my opinion. I own Ampeg, Markbass, and Eden and can make them all work great me. You can add the BG250 to that list.

Anyway, I had a question for you guys. Since I got a floor model, I didn't get the usb cable. I want to dowload the Spectracomp toneprint to my computer and then install it to the BG250. Anyone know the model number for the usb cable required? Can I get it at Radio Shack? Thanks

No model number, per se. you just need a USB to mini-USB cable. Something like this will work: http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...ductId=2261722
