Upgraded to the new firmware, no issues at all. I'm not huge on effects, but the toneprint feature is pretty neat. This little amp gets LOUD! Impressive for such a lightweight combo.

I like the toneprints, I wish there were a greater variation of sounds but they will probably show up in time.
Tuner, EQ etc. etc. = all good.
My only gripe is the tweeter used in this box. I like sparkling highs and it's difficult to get out of this combo..... BUT I like everything else so much I would be willing to change it out. I've got a j retro in my bass and I have to crank the bright control all the way up to get that slap sound I like. (Yes I have adjusted the gain properly)
For those who are scared that its only 250 watts. This box is plenty loud for a small to medium gigs. I wanted a small powerful combo for practice and smaller gigs. This is it. $267 well spent. Best value out there right now with all the features. This is a true all in one solution.
If I was rating this thing it would probably be a 90 out of 100. Points were deducted for the exterior, I like the rugged bedliner, if you plan on moving this thing alot a cover is a must. More toneprints are needed IMHO, there is a million choruses and no envelope filter???? A side handle woulda been nice but the weight is great.
I love the fact that all I need is my bass and a instrument cord. No extra tuner, no extra pedals. Thanks TC Electronic, I'm a fan.

It's well worth the money, and I'll be using it primarily as a practice amp, and for some smaller shows, etc where I have to cart it around. I was thinking of installing a telescoping handle w wheels for those long hauls. I can see a cab like this being perfect for those hotel type gigs where you have to travel up and down elevators, through parking lots etc. I used it at a huge upscale private event last week in a pretty big room, and they didn't have to put me through the PA. I was very very surprised at how loud and how much low end this little guy can project. I did mention in a previous post that my high mids and highs do get buried with a loud band, but I can live with that considering what else this amp can handle. I would love to see a 5-6" mid driver swapped for the tweeter and replace the crossover so the 5-6" driver would pick up those high mids and highs, kinda like the fearful 15/6 concept, or burziddos mod. |

Basically, many people don't like the sound of a tweeter or use distortion pedals, and would like a sweeter more natural high end, so they were swapping out the tweeter for a 5-6" mid driver capable of handling the high mids, and highs. Many people were modding their Avatar 212 cabs a few years back. http://www.google.com/search?q=burzi...ient=firefox-a
edit: I should also note, that this mod took care of the high mid 'dip' or hole in the frequency range between the speaker and tweeter that many cabs suffer from.

| | | | I love this combo and have made it my main amp for now (replacing $1200 worth of gear for $324 plus a $40 footswitch). But one thing I will say, IMHO, this is not the combo for you if you are a heavy slapper, or use that as your main style.
For rock, and all other styles -It sounds so freaking good with the tubetone on 5, and spectracomp on about 3. Far warmer and smoother than my AG TH500.
Works great with my pick and fingers at those settings.
But as many have noted the tweeter doesn't kick on at all (unless you have your treble above 3 o clock or something)
Is there a good low-cost tweeter replacement that is viable for this unit, just curious? |

I'm playing on a cheap passive bass so the output isn't all that great and as has been stated the high boost works better with active instruments. My drummer finally got to hear the new setup and loved it. Guitarist says it's the best sounding bass rig he's ever heard.

For your info, the speaker is 4 ohm. |

For your info, the speaker is 4 ohm. | I did this yesterday, because I was going to try the amp with my Berg Ae410 cab and a/b it with the Shuttle 9.0. I only want to do this because I am thinking of picking up a BH250 head. I didn't get far, and I should have taken pics. If you remove the amp by unscrewing the 3 screws on each side, and slide the amp out, there's one black and one red speaker wire with an end pin connection that clips into the power board on the amp. One the other end, the wires are funneled through the wood leading to the speaker but I could not see anything, and they are siliconed where the wires enter the wood. You would have to remove the speaker grill and speaker to see what the connections to the speaker look like. I'm sure they are the standard terminal connections, but I have not confirmed this yet.
the connection going to the amp end looks something like this... http://www.google.com/imgres?hl=en&client=firefox-a&hs=fpv&sa=X&tbo=d&rls=org.mozilla:en-US fficial&biw=1525&bih=741&tbm=isch&tbnid=1qU_I5 NVc3AIoM:&imgrefurl=http://www.adafruit.com/blog/2010/06/&docid=UAWOL3YDAqqrgM&imgurl=http://www.adafruit.com/adablog/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/jst2pin_LRG.jpg&w=550&h=423&ei=JlbWUNSTEsjL0AGz9IH gDw&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=1078&vpy=280&dur=444&hovh=1 60&hovw=216&tx=119&ty=112&sig=10272327669076474096 0&page=3&tbnh=160&tbnw=216&start=72&ndsp=39&ved=1t :429,r:94,s:0,i:378 |

The price went from $304.51 to $260.71 and this guy is a happy camper. That's about $570 worth of gear, including the Corona pedal, for $260.

Did you use the quote from one of the links in the previous pages?

Perhaps if you run the SpectraComp too high you may get that effect. I run mine usually between 3 and 4 and maybe 5, never higher. You can always email tech support because I've found that they quickly answer their mail. |
