I am looking to fill the role of practice/small gigs with 4 piece rock band. For comparison, the B100r is just about right there, but maybe a bit shy on low end at some gigs (practice is fine).
Plus, I'll admit it, carrying 37 pounds vs. 65 pounds doesn't hurt at the end of the night. |

| | | | I would think the BG250 would more than meets your needs. It's 250 watts and the 100R is only 100 watts RMS. What's more important is that I think your lower notes will come out better. I've been told physics demands that more power be used to produce the lower notes. Please let me know if I am wrong. Thus the old saying that to keep up with a guitarist the bassist needs 3 or 4 times the power,
I have not played through your amp but for years I used just a little Ampeg BA115 that has 100 watts. It was good for most shows but when I needed the power the bass just disappeared or became super muddy.
I still have the BA115 but it's broken so I can't compare the two but I have played the same venue with the new amp (with the same power drummer and one guitarist) and I had no trouble with the lower notes at about noon on the master and gain.
I do like overall the Ampeg sound more but the BG250 with the SpectraComp is a close second.

I posted a long first review where I was having feedback/hum issues while DI-ing out of the BG250 at my first gig with it. I kept thinking I was bleeding into vox mic as he was standing directly in front of me/my amp.
I shoulda taken the DI out of play to see if noise went away. Then again, not sure what sort of "noise" mystic38 meant. So far at two loud-ish rehearsals, no PA'd instruments, the little rig sounds great with my P5 w/Nylon Tapes. Maybe I'm learning how to use it better as well. Won't be in PA this coming Sat gig; very small wine bar but loud-ish band. I'll see how it goes.

what i am seeing is that the DI out has a fair amount of hiss... and this is even with the amp on mute...
this afternoon i took the amp into the studio to run into my audio interface (motu 828 mkIII) and it was the same as with the mixer.. hiss.
so to me, the DI is way above any acceptable level of background noise for recording.. Quote:

| | | | Brand new member here just giving a heads up that the bg250 from zzounds can be had for $329.79 and free shipping if you use the lowest price option and use the guitar center 15% off coupon. I'm also gonna try for the 4 monthly payments. Pretty good deal so i thought anyone that has been holding out for this combo might like to know about it. Take care. |

I've finally taken away the twitter from the cab. With some notes it started to vibrate adding an awfull noise to the global sound. It wasn't broken because I checked it playing some musing thru the line in and the highs were good. Playing the bass from 4 to up level was other history.
Anyway I've doubts about if the amp can run into problems without the twitter. What do you think ? |

It seems like that might be a quality inconsistency. Apparently they have to cut some corners in manufacturing an amp like this at this price point. Now I would have recommended trying to exchange or return your less than a year old amp before potentially voiding a warrenty with your 'twitter" removal.
