The first time I got the 2nd one to rehearsal, I put both at 8 on the master for just a minute and My guitarist's dog ran out of the room.... TWICE.

Thanks

Thanks | I haven't, but I believe another of us has stacked them on their sides....

| | | | Hello all. I'm a drummer that is getting into playing bass and just bought the bg250. I am into gear and quality sound and I love this combo. I have a couple of questions. Is it normal for the amp/speaker to have what I would describe as a burning smell to it while driving it somewhat hard? The smell seems to be located right about at the front/top area of the speaker. I drive this thing pretty hard and when I run it with spectracomp and tubedrive both at 5 with volume at about 6 or 7 and gain at about 4, if I get my nose up close to the front I smell a burning/overheating. It worries me but the thing doesn't so much as hiccup or sound like it's even close to farting out.
Also, what do most of you have your gain set at? Mine is right around 4. If I set it much higher the clipping light comes on but it never does at 4. Just wondering if gain at 4 is normal because that seems a bit low to me. BTW my bass is a very cheap active ibanez soon to be replaced with a Sterling Ray34. Not sure if the bass guitar itself makes a difference as to what the gain level might be able to be set at. Thanks for the help. |

I have two units and I just got through playing a gig tonight with just one unit. I don't have any of those burning problems with either unit but I haven't actually stuck my nose that close to the unit. I guess it's possible. Others have said there is no internal fan.
Also my clipping unit comes on at about 7 or 8 I think, certainly not as low as 4. One of my basses is a cheap Ibanez with actives (or maybe it's passives with an active boost or whatever) |

Guess it has something to do with digital power amp, or something...? |

I play with a pick and do strike the strings quite hard, maybe that is a factor? I'm sure it is but it seems I would be able to have the gain higher than 4 regardless. Anyone else care to chime in with what they have the gain set to?
And when you set the gain is the clip light supposed to come on occasionally or should it be set so you never see it blink on and off? |

I was running that on one and running the other without tubetone with chorus. I just changed the settings to match now that I have the Corona pedal. I did have to cut the tubetone and spectracomp way back, though. Running both that way created way too much feedback.

No area of the unit is hot to the touch. Makes me feel like the speaker voice coil itself is getting so much of a workout that it's overheating. But I have zero experience with anything bass combo or bass guitar so maybe it's just a normal smell of this thing breaking in. My settings are similar to what yours are. with the gain set at about 4 I get no clip light. Even a touch above that and the clip light will come on ocassionally.

It is strongest at the front top section of the unit. Like at the top section of the driver. It's worse if I am jamming out with something like "the beast" toneprint. Or if I have it cranked and have been really laying into the E string. But at no point does it sound distorted and I get no indication that the driver or amp is straining. It just has this...smell. lol I'm sure it's probably nothing to worry about but I just wonder if anyone else has experienced it. |
