Well, it's made in China like many other electronics these days, so most of the time, yes they are reliable, but most chinese electronics are built with inferior components which, in turn, can fail. You'll always have a few lemons, all it takes is one bad solder joint, or bad electrical component, and the amp is a brick. The good thing is, most 'near faulty' electronics will usually fail within the first few hours of running. It seems like these are just as reliable as many other big name amps out there right now. IMO, the best thing to do is to run it through a few days of rigorous testing. Run it hard, and for many hours, if it passes 'the test' all should be good. I took mine to an open mic that I run, it's a full band open mic, and it can get LOUD! After a few nights of gigs like this, I feel 100% confident with this amp.

All this being said, I have a behringer powered mixer that I have been using for over a year, 3 times a week for gigs, and numerous times everyday for practicing, and it has not failed me at all!

I haven't had any problems. With that said, it's a mass produced electronic so there will be duds. TC looks to be proactive and responsive to qc issues.

In a similar vein to stepswork4me, here is my "Stack". Total is 350w into 2 x 15". What I do is send the post EQ signal out of the BG250 XLR, through an old passive direct box and into the input of the Ashdown Five Fifteen, with the EQ about flat. Bass shown is my Franken P-Bass.

I send the post EQ so the Five Fifteen still gets the effect of the Tubedrive and the Toneprint (using Comp in the Middle). When both are on the floor, they sound really good together with both masters around 4, but when I stack them, I have to back the Ashdown off a bit or it overpowers the BG250. This is probably just because it is closer to your ears. One other thing I have to look at is the input gain on the Ashdown. The harder you drive the input, the more breakup and distortion you get (very musical for a analog amp btw), so I have to keep the input gain down to keep the sound consistent through both amps.

The sound is really nice and fat through both 15"s.

I sold my B100R a few years ago, and it's a great amp. I'd say the BG250 is considerably louder than the B100R, which is no surprise. No matter what you think of watts in relation to SPLs, the BG250 has a bigger engine, and is capable of being MOAR LOUD than the B100R.

Tonally, I think both amps have a sound to die for! The BG250 is the best-sounding amp I've had since my B100R, and I think they're playing in the same tonal ballpark.

I got my BG250 this week. I haven't gigged it yet. Last weekend I played a smaller room (50 people) with a band who uses electronic drums. Bass and guitars just used amps. The B100r kicked butt! I had it on 6 for the master. It seems that after that, the limiters really kick in and cut the low end. But up to that point, the B100r is completely awesome. It truly sounds like a mean SVT on the recording I made.

That being said, at home, the BG250 is loud enough to hurt my ears. I cranked it for a while in my basement and it rattled a glass vase off of the shelf upstairs (wife wasn't home-"honey, must be the shelf shifted" LOL). The BG250 is about the same size as the B100r and about 3 inches taller (which is basically the size of its front port). I am not sure I like the growl as much as the B100r (I use the spectra comp and and the tube drive on the BG250 and I actually like the tone with the tubedrive off a little better).

I plan on gigging the BG250 this weekend (once again with electronic drums and also FOH support) so it will be a better test as to its usage in a band.

Played thru a refrurbed Ampeg B15 yesterday and I have to say that the sound of the BG250 is very close. The Ampeg had more definition than what I recall from the "old days." Actually had to roll back some treble using my Lakland 55-94.

I noticed when you turn up the BG250, the design of the cab gives you that extra oomph. Although, I can hear it if that makes sense...there is a hollow quality to the tone. Not a bad thing, but that is the difference from a large rig. Still, until I try it with the band, I won't know.

Cool Another Gig Review...

Hey TBers,

I am blessed to perform with a New Orleans based band, The Grayhawk Band, in which the leader is a close and personal friend of The NightCrawler, Dr. John. Its not everyday one gets to backup a Grammy award winning, Rock-n-Roll hall of Famer! Nonetheless, it was a blast. On to the gig review...

Twelve (12) musicians on stage and two (2) drum sets and I am caught in between the both of them, stage left. CRAZY ALERT: I never turned the Master Volume past 5!! The sound engineer asked me to turn down the amp at one time during the sound check. I do not know what the technology is, however, this amp has BALLS-O-Plenty! I used the Spectracomp at about 4 on the dial, and the Tubedrive at 3 on one song only. Why? It was too much for any other song. The deep earthy sound coming out the amp was a lil too much for 70s funky blues.

While I said in an earlier review it might not handle a metal gig, two (2) of these would kill most people in the front two rows of a show. Again, the weight, power, sound, and price CANNOT be beat. The TC Electronics BG250 is the best combo I've played in 35 years of performing. The more you crank it the more it gives you.

Go get one TBers! And NO I do not work for TC Electronics in any capacity! Pictures of the amp on stage along with the artists performing for the benefit are located at the following site: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?...4987070&type=1

If I am violating any TB rules on posting the URL, please accept my apologies. The benefit performance is over and we helped raise $10,000 for a domestic violence program in Southeast Louisiana!

Peace

They had a BG250 at the blues jam last night and I loved it. I have a TC BH500+BC410 and the BG250 sounded very much like my rig, and it had plenty of power for the small venue. One of the folks who set up last night remarked how light the BG250 was, which was also my experience with the 410.

Question Club gigs

I play in a 9-piece band (horns, singers, etc), and sometimes we do clubs that have PA support. You think the BG250 combo can handle it? I've played through one at GC and I like what it does, but the real test would be gigs. I want something I can just get in and out without the separate cab/head, etc. Anyone?

It's well up to the task of dealing with a heavy handed drummer, unsupported, so yes. I think if you read through the thread a little, you'll find a number of testimonials as to the capability.

As far as getting in and out easily, 35 lbs allows for that.

Further, as El Presidente, there are some rules...from this point forward, the official language of the club will be Swedish.

Silence!

In addition to that, all club members will be required to change their underwear every half-hour. Underwear will be worn on the outside so we can check. Furthermore, all children of club members under 16 years old are now 16 years old...
