TC Electronic BG250 problems poll

Hi!

I've been looking around for a new portable combo and after trying quite a few, I found that the TC Electronic BG250 would be my best choice... it's loud, sounds good, easy to carry and cheap!

Though most people give them good reviews, I often read that some people have problems, issues, with them. Treble knob not working, amp not working after a few days, burning smell, etc.

Now, I just want to know what I'm getting into if I buy one, so I decided on this poll.

For the people who own/owned a BG250, please let me know if :
YES you had a problem with a BG250
NO I haven't...

Other comments will be welcome!

Never had any issues with mine...

Have had it for nearly a year. It gets (usually) daily use and is regularly transported between my home studio (i.e. basement) and my bands rehearsal space.

I've never experienced knobs not working, burning smells, or dead amp syndrome.

Had one since July 2012 and gig it regular with no issues. Solid as a rock but much lighter. No issues at all.

I should mention that both basses I use through mine are active. I have heard that this may effect the Treble adjustment issue.

Mine's working flawlessly for nearly 6 months now. Played a couple of gigs with band and was constantly practicing at home.

I've had mine for almost as long as they've been released (not sure of exact time), I've had no problems

Yes. I've had a problem with a BG250

No. I haven't had any problems with another BG250 for approaching a year.

I got a unit that failed within hours of operation. I went to turn it on and got some of the tuner lights on full and no sound. I wrestled briefly with the idea that if I got a replacement, I'd never be able to trust it. At the time, I wasn't fully sold on the idea of a combo anyway. I decided to go with the replacement and with hoping it would earn my trust. It has.

The fact is that the great majority of units of any amp will be fine. With statistics, even with an infinitesimal failure rate, someone has to be the unlucky one. Another fact is that you can't learn actual failure rates from an internet forum poll, club thread or fan/bash thread. Your poll results are going to be totally hit or miss.

I don't think buying gear allows you to take anecdotes...good or bad...and predict your future. Statistic don't matter. You're only buying one amp. If you were buying a hundred, then they would matter.

Just go with your gut.

I bought two Ampegs that, going on forum reports, are supposedly sketchy. I had what I had read in the back of my mind, but they were both fine, and with warranties, I didn't really feel at risk.

I bought a GK head and only read after I suffered a problem that there had been reports of the same problem with others. I got a replacement and had the same problem again. "No worries though, GK has stellar customer service" is what people who had the experience said. That wasn't the case for me.

Buying experiences are individual, not a group activity.

Actually, I think your failure percentages will be higher in an internet forum than the norm. When peple have a problem with a product they will often do some combination of 3 things:
Search for a solution to their problem.
Warn others of their experience with a product.
B*tch about it.

Yeah, most people won't go out of their way to tell the world their amp works. LOL But if something's wrong everybody and their momma will hear about it.

Had mine since August 2012. No issues (minus the soft tolex bumps). Multiple gigs a month.

I forgot to add, I've had mine since late Nov 2012 without issues. To me, the downsides to this amp are minor. It will dent easily. And it would be even easier to carry around if it was re-oriented by 90 degrees.

That's kind of what motivated me to post this poll in the first place. If there's not much votes for the "I had problems" option, then there's nothing to worry about...

Zero Problems since early november. My favorite sound on the little guy is bass and treb at 1 o'clock and mids at 3 o'clock, tubedrive at around 6/7. I use a Squier Classic Vibe '60s P-bass with a series/parallel switch in it, and I am an avid effect user. I am a fan of toneprint since it has successfully let me get a flanger without paying for it By the way, this is my first "real" amp (I have a crate combo, like 25 watts) and I've never really used an SVT or whatever you guys' gold standard is.
