Just received an official email about this one.

http://www.tcelectronic.com/blacksmith.asp

Looks pretty sweet!
Goes down to 2ohms, has the tweetertone control, and I like the black chassis/white lights motif.
Also looks like it's compatible with the RC foot controller.
Alas, not something that I need at the moment as its just simply too much power for what I am doing lately. Absolutely love my RH450 though.

interesting, but the price is crazy, those are boutique tube amp prices. no thanks, I'll keep my rack, now if they get the street price more reasonable, I might be up for it.

TC Electronic expects to begin shipping the new Blacksmith bass amp in March, 2011 for $3,599 (MSRP). For more information, please visit tcelectronic.com/blacksmith.

TCE has some nice gear but @ $3,599 I'll go by their booth here at NAMM and make an inquiry, keep you posted on what they say. If that is anywhere close to street price I'll pass.

Assuming the typical 20% to 25% discount at retail, the price of this amp would be about $500 more than an Aguilar DB750 to the consumer. That's still a lot of money, but seems reasonable for the quality and power of this amp.

Not sure who in the world would need that kind of power output, but I assume they are planning this as a more 'showpiece' for the line than a high volume sales item.

The TC heads are definitely 'boutique level' per the comment above.

I personally would be much more interested in seeing an RH600 with the tweetertone control

Why? I am totally impressed with the quality, features and performance of my RH450. I literally can't think of another amp that exceeds it regarding attention to detail, etc.

it's all a matter of perception and/or definition on boutique. I don't consider anything MASS produced in china/japan/etc... boutique.

I'm not at all gonna get into a pi**ing match over opinions, and I will never talk smack about TCEs quality of products, but boutique, they are not.... AWESOME, they are.

Just don't see the price being on par with amps like the SVT4Pro thats ALOT less and still imported in and has a ton of wattage. not the same tone no, but still a tone thats sought after as well.

I agree it is a massive amount of cash. I do see the TC stuff as quite a step above the Ampeg Hybrids, and more similar to Aguilar, etc. However, you are right, 'boutique' can be defined as 'small shop/small batch', and that it ain't.

The blacksmith is actually made in Denmark, and from what we're told they're only making a limited amount.

Agreed, an rh1000 would make more sense than this thing but I'm sure this will shut up the critics that were saying tc needs to make a higher output head

I'm not quite sure what you meant by that (perhaps I'm a bit slow on this Monday morning), but it certainly shut the thread down. Everyone's posting their Blacksmith comments in the RH450 thread now.

Unfortunately I am still waiting for information from my local shop on availability. They should have some information this week. I do plan on ordering one of these as soon as possible and will certainly post it up.
