TC Electronic RH 450/750

Hi guys,

I'm currently in the market for a new bass amp but I'm overwhelmed by the amount of amps available. I really dig the fact that you can store presets on the RH's. But here comes the part where I'm not sure whether to buy a TC amp. I play all kinds of music but when I gig I usually play some of the harder stuff like hardcore, metal and hardrock. We play most of these genres in Dropped-D and Dropped-C. Will these amps handle this in terms of volume and clarity?
I was also looking at the GB Streamliner 900. I think it's in the same price range as the TC RH 750. But I'm not a fan of all tube amps.
But the GB Streamliner is a hybrid as I recall.

I'm looking for a tone that will stand out in the mix so it's nice to have low-mid and high-mid eq options.

And here comes part two of my dilemma; what kind of cabs? 2x10" or a 4x10", maybe even a 2x12" paired with a 2x10"??

I'm really not sure what will handle the kind of music I play. So fellow bassists... I'm in dire need of your help.

As some one who owns a TC rh 750 2 2x10 and a 2x12 I can tell you that if loud volume and low tuning and you want definition not a wolly tube like tone the tc rig is a no go . I am actualy in the process of getting rid of mine for a Markbass rig cause the tc rig is loud but I find when it's pushed it compresses like a tube head (and that's ok for some people) but I play very fast technical metal and need low mids and definition .

I have an RH450 and have an RH750 on the way, so obviously, I personally like it. I can't claim to have a great breadth of experience with different amps, but I think I have to echo devilman666 there, the RH450 gets a dirty, grindy sound at higher volumes, even with Tubetone at 0.

If you want volume and clarity and don't like tube-like sound, I doesn't sound like an RH will make you happy.

dR pepper that's what killed it for me I don't mind dirty but not all the time and that's all I can get at the volume I need .

The best advice I can give you is to shut off the Tube Tone, turn off the compressor, ensure that you individual channel volume is no higher then just past noon and carefully adjust your mids in the eq section. It has helped me get a cleaner tone from the amp a high volume...
Also, I find that this amp really prefers to work with passive basses vs active basses... imho!

If and when you're in a shop testing these amps out , check the manual too.
Search the TC RH450 and 750 threads here, these amps are plug and play but only if you read the manual and adjust the mid freq to your liking, factory presets aren't to everyone's liking , but they're adjustable .

So far all the advice has been really helpful, thanks guys.
I really like solid-state amps so I'm definitely not looking for an SVT or something similar.
Do you think the RH 750 will handle higher volumes without getting to "grindy" like the RH 450 does?
Also, wich cabs are able to handle lower tunings and have a decent low end sound? Sure the midrange and higher frequencies matter too but in my experience most cabs are able to pull that off while the low end was always lacking.

And if you guys really think I shouldn't buy a TC amp what other do you recommend? I need the gigging power so I probably need something with more than 500 Watts and good recording options like on the RH.
(Also, I want to apologize if my English sucks a little bit. It's not my native language and it's kinda hard thinking in Dutch and then having to translate your thoughts into correct English.)

if loud and clear is want you want then try a gk. lots of watts per dollor too.

IMO your issue with the TC amps will be the drop D, C thing. RH amps don't do the low, loud deep thing well. They grind well and the presets are awesome but IMO you want a diff brand.
