TC Electronic RH450 - TubeTone Question

Searched the forums as best I could, but I couldn't find an answer to this question.

I just picked up a TC Electronic RH450 and noticed that through a cabinet, I can turn the TubeTone up quite high, like 3 or 4 o'clock before it starts to sound... For lack of a better word, "farty."

When I run it through the DI into my DAW, I can get to maybe 10 or 11 o'clock before it just sounds farty and awful. A tiny bit adds some nice warmth, but just a little bit more just sounds unusably awful to me.

Is this pretty standard in everyone else's experience?
