Question tc electronics RH750 vs. Genz-Benz ShuttleMAX 9.2

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm getting back into playing after a 5 year layoff and bought a 50th anniversary Fender Jazz Bass. I still have my Hartke 4.5 XL cabinet from back in the day. Currently practicing through a Eden WTDI, a Crown power amp then into the 4.5XL cab. The last full rig I played through was an Eden WT800 and 4x10 Eden cabinet. Loved the responsiveness, especially in the attacks.

That said, I'm looking to get a new amp to go (initially) with the Hartke 4.5 XL cabinet and would like insights and advice on the tc electronic RH750 versus the Genz-Benz ShuttleMAX 9.2. Obviously, the GB has an actual tube in the preamp as well as a FET channel, whereas the tc uses "tubetone."

I do plan to get a "modern" bass in the next year or so, leaning towards a Sadowsky or Lakland, thus would like to get an amp now that will do both the passive J-bass and active bass justice (assuming that *I* do them justice, first...). Genres I play are contemporary Christian, cool jazz, R&B and rock & soul.

Many thanks for all insights.

Scott

Personally, I'd go with the TC. Super clean, malleable sound. Never been a fan of the genz

I like the idea of the GenzBenz. I haven't tried the 9.2, but tried the GBE1200 and really liked blending the tube and solid state channels. Fat tube bottom, more solid state for the highs.

Genz every time! I have the shuttle 9 currently and it kills! Being able to blend in the tube is a huge advantage. Considering getting the 9.2 in the future...

it has the versatility of both the ShuttleMax and the StreamLiner all rolled into one

I just bought the SM 9.2 and I love it. There's a lot of versatility there. I'm playing a Lakland 44-02 (w/Barts and flatwounds) through a Schroeder 1210 Pro and it's killer. Before I bought it, I tried the TC. The TC was very good, but the GB was my thing.

You'll probably find that most people will say the same thing: They are both great amps, so it's just a matter of choosing which one suits your sound best. I don't think you can go too wrong.

I know, I know. I'm no help at all!

I had the RH750 and did not like it at all. Ordered the new GK MB800 from Musician's Friend for $629 shipped.
