Unhappy TC Electronics RS112 v/s Hartke HX112 cab or others

Dilemma!

I have a Hartke HA3500 and a VXL410 cab. Love the sound, it suits my style of playing with whatever guitar I have thrown at it, Fender Jazz, Yamaha BB615, Fender fretless. Very solid cab but heavy & cumbersome to carry for small jams, gigs or even practice.

I am considering a single 1x12 that I can connect to the HA3500 (350w) which would be a much lighter setup. The 4x10 can then be parked until required.

I like what I have read about the modularity of the TC Electronics Cabs and would have loved to get a RS112 and a RS210 and a 450amp but that would be too much $$$. That would also mean having to sell the Hartke for not much....

To stay with the brand, I would probably go with the HX112 if it was available down here in Melbourne, I guess I could probably pair it with the 4x10 for the larger rooms. They are lighter than the TC by a few 100grms but the cabinet is a bit wider.

I also saw the new Fender Rumble 1x12 or 2x8 Cabs at a shop last week but they are both more expensive than the TC or Hartke

I haven't heard or tried any of the units yet as they either do nto have the unit in stock (HX112) or the correct amp to match the cab for some trial playtime.

Any of you have had experience with any of the gear above or any other suggestions? They will be most welcome.

Thank you.

First of all, many manufacturers tend to voice their cabs to complement their amps - and vice versa. From what I've gathered, this is particularly the case with TC Electronic. How well it would work with your Hartke amp? I have no idea...

Secondly, no way is a single 1x12 ever going to substitute for a 4x10. A pair of 1x12s maybe. But only if they're extraordinary cabs...and/or if the 4x10 in question is mediocre at best. Take that as you will.

Thirdly - and therefore - it makes no sense whatsoever to expect to mate a single 1x12 cab with a 4x10, and actually expect the 1x12 to hold its own against the 4x10. Not gonna happen. What you get is "the worst of both worlds" scenario, with your total system performance limited by the relatively meager output of the 1x12, while the 4x10 languishes.

I suggest you think out your system requirements much more thoroughly...

FWIW, I did briefly own a Hartke HX112 a bit earlier this year. I expected to be impressed...and I wasn't. The thing couldn't handle much power at all, and just completely mushed out on the low end whenever pushed. Since I bought this thing used, on the aftermarket, it's entirely possible that it had been abused and beaten up before I ever got it. So take that with a pound of salt in consideration of a brand new unit. Just try before you buy...

Hi MysticMichael,

Thank you for taking the time to post a reply. I do appreciate your opinions and options and get the point.

It also showed me that I should have expressed myself clearer!!

Here it is, I am looking for a smaller cab that can be lugged around with not much effort and paired with the amp when I want to play low at a small jam, gig, practice.
I can go back and use the 4x10 and its matching 1x15 when playing at louder venues where more ommph is required.

I have had the opportunity since to play the HA3500 with a Eden EX112, the TC RS112 and also a MarkBass cabinet. The Eden paired nicely with the amp and is not too expensive. I guess I will try some more combinations to see what makes sense. I may even end up with a HX112!

I don't know about Hartke but TC 210 is really loud and has really nice tone for such small and light cab

I just recently acquired a DNA DNS112n and this cab is absolutely terrific. I also ordered an Eden EX112 as it was on sale on Amazon and will try that out as well. 2 of the DNA 112's would kill. I have an Eden D210XST and the DNA 112 matches it in volume and has a richer sound without the mid-hump that Eden cabs are known for. Once the EX112 comes in, I am goign to see if the DNA 112 and the EX112 will displace the 212XLT for larger gigs. If not, I will most likely get another DNA DNS112.

I have the TC 1x12 and it is a great, tight cab. I use it only for low volume rehersal or add it to my Sadowsky (Bergantino) 4x10 for large outdoor gigs.

The 1x12 sounds great with many heads other than TC IME.

Bottom line, a single 1x12 is great for practicing at home, small gigs, etc., but it isn't even close to moving the same air as a 4x10.

Lastly, Hartke cabs are very underrated IMO. Problem with your Hartke is that if you sell it, you will likely take a bath. Ensure you really like what you buy before dumpling the Hartke.
