TC RH450 Rack Mount...my solution.

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi all,

I'll start with a small rant: I cannot believe a company of TC Electronic's caliber produced a Amp as fantastic as the RH450 and then crapped out such a poor Rack Mount kit for it. The Amp was mounted off center, there was a space all around the amp allowing you to see through the rack mount and it generally looked incomplete. I've agonized over it ever since I mounted it up...so I finally did something about it.

Pretty simple solution really. I stopped by our local Hobby Lobby and picked up a $3 piece of black water proof, coated foam board, and a couple of right angle brackets. Then I traced the Amp onto the foam board, cut it out with the exacto knife and mounted it up. Viola! The gaping hole was filled in and it looks reasonable professional.

Oh, I also centered the Amp, I have no idea why TC mounted it stage left?

It's a shame TC didn't send something as simple with the bracket.

Cheers!

nice work. I'll keep this in mind.
I have to agree with you about T.C. elec and all the other companies making smaller & mini heads. Why don't they make a small rack enclosure for them.
Let's face it, a small head in a 19" rack really defeats the purpose of going & staying small. I have written to several rack makers and asked that they introduce something that will better fit the new heads. TB'ers, lets unite & get SKB to make a nice smalll rack!

i'd like micro heads to be half rack space width (like the SWR AmpLite) so you can mount 2 in a single rack space.

How did you center it, did you drill new holes in the bottom of the bracket?

I'm thinking about buying the bracket for my RH750. What you did there looks really good.

nice work.

do tell more about how the RH is arranged in that config.

Foam board ? how hardy is that stuff ? I mean the RH is fairly light, but is still almost 9 lbs (8.8). How did you mount the amp in that arrangement. Is it possible that, with the motion of repeated load in/out, that the amp will slowly enlarge the opening in the Foam Board ?
Did you attach it to the angle brackets somehow ?
Is the amp sitting on some raised feet so it is supported below ?

inquiring minds want to know.

Phadreus's "looking outside the box" solution is great. Thanks for sharing and posting the pics.
