TC RH750/Cable Inquiry

Sign in to disble this ad
I apologize in advance, I am a complete amateur when it comes to full rig set ups.

I just recieved my RH750 today, and it is my understanding that at 8ohms I am to use the Line out with a Microphone cable to the cab?

It is my belief that the Speakon jack is 4ohm-2ohms only yes?

What I am curious about is whether or not my speaker cable is jacked up, I am assuming yes. When I plug my ipod in, and headphones everything works perfectly and I get a killer sound. With the Mic cable there is VERY VERY low output, and basically non-audible. Are there any tell tale signs that I am being an idiot via user error, or does this just appear to be the case of a faulty mic cable?

Do not use a mic cable!!!!!!
Use speakon. Wiring diagram is in the manual.

What cab do you have?

No matter the cab, you should use the speakon out via speakon cable to your cab.

It sounds like you are trying to run a cab off a balanced line input, which does not work.

kk thanks, yeah it was for like a split second.

So my next question is, the amp states the speakon is a 4ohm minimum where as my cab is 8ohms. Pretty sure this amp is 8/4/2 (2 is more applicable to TC cabs I've heard though). I assume if that is the case I cannot safely connect the cab to the amp without having say, 2 8ohm cabs to make the 4 it specifies?

Edit: I have 2 4x10 Cabinets
-Older TE 1048h
-Hartke 4x10TP (going to nix this one soon though)

Do you know the impedance of your cabs?

From what I can find, the 1048 is 800w @ 8 ohms and the 410TP is 300w @ 8 ohms.

If those are correct, you can run either one cab or both cabs with no worries.
The RH750 says it wants a 4 ohm minimum load.

EDIT: TC amps are rather annoying because it's very hard to figure out their actual wattage, unless you measure it yourself. It seems that the RH750 paired with the 1048 should be killer though.

Yeah, I am mainly excited to get it kicking with that TE cab. Its an older UK model, which is... like the TC a bit cryptic. This one SHOULD be rated at 320w @ 8Ohms, but I've heard that is incredibly conservative and they take much more than that. Should be an awesome match, thanks for the info! I appreciate both your responses!

The maximum output of the RH750 is 236w. Your cabs won't have a problem.

Yeah I read up on that in some other threads. Annoying not having the exact numbers on that cab though, heh!

Pretty sure you're cool unless the Ohms are less than recommended. ie Don't connect two 4ohm cabinets, one 8ohm cab should be fine.

When an amp specifies a 4 ohm minimum, that means the load must be MORE than 4 ohms. It will drive a single 8 ohm cab just fine.
