TC RH750 master volume with active bass

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey guys. Quick concern I have with my new RH750.

I run a Dingwall Super J in active mode through this head. I run the volume knob on my bass at full then roll back a tad. On the head, it'll clip at around 9, 10 o clock so i usually set it around 7 o clock which I believe is normal. Anyways, when i play it through any cab, i'll start off with the master at zero, then slowly move it up....at around 7-8 o clock you'll hear a pretty drastic volume increase...from 6-8 there's a nice gradual increase then BOOM, it kinda sky rockets from there.

Is this normal? Should my volume on my bass be rolled back even more?

Thanks!

It's normal; the master control is quite sensitive in its bottom 25% or so.

To compensate for this, most of us have reduced the "preset level," which is an intermediate level control. Doing so allows you to run the master higher, where its action is smoother.

1. Select a preset.
2. Press SHIFT
3. The tubetone knob now adjusts preset level. Reduce it about 4-6 clicks. Save the preset.
4. Repeat for the other two presets.

With the level of the presets reduced, you now can operate the master level control at a higher setting, where it's smoother.

Normal on the RH450, I imagine the 750 has the same volume pot.
As mentionned above reducing the volume preset trim will give you more ''throw'' on the master.

You're correct. The same is true of the RH750 and the Blacksmith as well.
