I'm fortunate to work in a music shop and get employee accommodations on killer gear. We are dealers for both lines but we haven't had either head in stock, so I've never played through either head.
What should I go with? TC Electronic RH750 or Orange AD200
the band I'm in is a mix of Iron Maiden/Foo Fighters
thanks for the help

\m/ | If I had the opportunity to get a good deal on gear, no doubt the Orange AD200!! Real tube tone, Geddy uses it, could only consider a 300W SVT over the Orange.
The Orange is/ will be a classic head, the TC I'm not that sure. |

The TC features are amazing, it's small and light, and IMO sounds great.
If tube tone is your thing, and you don't mind the weight, get the Orange. If versatility, portability and general great tone matter more, go TC.
IMO, YMMV and all that.

Both have their advantages.
The Orange is fairly heavy, large, and quite 'basic' but in a good way...the reason being you can plug in and get an instantly good tone. Basic EQ was intentional. Very pure signal path. The tube breakup is THE BEST I've heard. Slams Ampeg into the ground and stomps on it. Made in the UK, which is cool! Mainly produces a very thick, vintage tone. Has no problem with big fat cleans, but its main cool attribute is the low volume level grind you can get over the Ampeg CL.
The 750 is a cool light amp. Modern, light, small, LOTS of USEFUL features, not just added for the heck of it. Great flexible EQ, can go from vintage rock n roll to tight modern slap. I won't go over the features, but they are great...seriously.
Both are LOUD as hell. None of them have any problems with volume, ever.
If you a simple rock n roll machine, the AD200 is hard to beat. If you want something smaller, with great features and flexibility, the RH750 gets close to the proper tube tone.

| | | Thanks everyone for the suggestions. Musicman20 really appreciate the info, always good to hear from someone who has both amps.
I think the TC head is going to save me about $750 and I like how light the head and the cabs are. We have a small trailer for touring so that will be easy on the loading
I'll probably go that route and then who knows maybe pickup an AD200 down the road anyway |

The 750 is much easier to move around and setup, by far.
Both great.

Among all the very cool features of the RH750 is the Tubetone - that can be cranked at any volume - IMO the best sounding Tube-Emulation out there - not only emulating tubes on the preamp but also on the power section. In other words you can get that nasty tube sound - regardless how loud you play. You can even get it in your headphones while practicing
As others have mentioned there is also portability.. Once you get to an amp that sounds great and is plenty powerful and at the same time weighs less than your bass - You don't want to go back handling heavy gear..

I guess that is why Sansamp products are very popular as well. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
