I've played both, and they do have some similarities. The SVT-210AV is a sealed, tweeterless cab, and it is smoother between 150Hz and 1kHz. The RS210 has a tweeter (coax) and of course extends a good bit higher, with a little peak in the upper mids. Both of them roll off on the low end about the same. We did a full review of the SVT-210AV in issue #4, and a full review of the RS210 in issue #6.

Tom.

Thanks Tom! I'm sort of a traditionalist and don't ever use the tweeter in any cabs I've had that had a tweeter, so I'm thinking the SVT 210 might be the best choice for me and it's lower cost as well. Will check both reviews. Thanks again!!!

Happy to help! Do note, you will get a bit more volume out of the RS210 (which is ported). Both cabs have some nice roundness and warmth to them, and both are fairly articulate, though not in a "scalpel-precise" fashion.

It's interesting that the RS speaker goes higher than the AV when their amp doesn't. ie.. the Ampeg Micro VR would have a much wider sound up top and bottom than the RH450 and on paper you would think it to be a more natural fit to the RS cab while the RH450's baked in tonal profile would match the AV cab.

The RH heads seem to be naturally voiced very similarly to a speaker response curve. This is probably (one reason) why it sounds so loud for it's low power rating - it's not pumping watts into frequencies that the speaker can't use.

That's my pre-coffee thought of the morning.

Maybe one of the secrets to pulling off the Ampeg thing is to have an amp that's bright up there and tone it down with the cab. Could be. I always liked cranking treble in my hard rock days but it never sounded tweetery to me.

The SVT210AV is one of the quietest 2x10's on the market, The TC RS210 is one of the loudest... The RS210 is one of the few 2x10's I'd be happy to use as a standalone cab on a gig. YMMV.

Ampeg

I played a Fender Classic Vibe 50’s bass (with a pick) through the Ampeg VR mini-head/SVT-210 cab and I was in classic rock heaven! Picture the tone Bad Motor Scooter (Montrose).

I honestly didn’t miss the tweeter and I have tweeters in all of my cabs. I have GAS.

I plan to use the 210AV with the RH450 only for rehearsals and informal jams. It will be either the Hydrive HX410 (or two of them) or the SVT-810 for gigs depending on the venue.
