no real world experience with this experiment, but my understanding is that if you are using the same speaker area (each is a 212) but one cab is a 8ohm and one is a 4ohm, you will go from 900 watts at 4ohms to 600w at 8ohms, and the rule is that you need to double the watts to increase the volume 3db. so, worst case here is that you would miss out on less than 3db of output.

With wattage that high in an absolute sense, you won't notice anything. With a Puma500, it would be significant (not a ton louder, but more open in the low end and less compressed at 4ohms). With the big watts of the 900, you are fine at 8, and a single cab (most anyway) really can't use all those watts at 4ohms.

And no other bass player in your area will sound like you. This is the main reason why I went with tecamp. Everybody else is using the usual suspects and I wanted to be and sound different. I'm glad I went with the Puma 500. I'd say 95% of the players in my area play through something else and while I won't say they frown on the tecamp stuff, they just don't realize what they're looking at :-). I took my head to a bass workshop and of course no one wanted to hear it they just looked at it and said oh, I've seen one of those before or just didn't have any reaction at all. It was like if it wasn't an Aguilar or a Markbass or something like that, they couldn't relate. I just laughed at their ignorance to myself.

In these days of brands that are 'either in Guitar Center or not available locally' in most places other than the largest cities in the US, many players are literally unaware of what is out there now.

Case in point, I sold my Bergantino AE410 at a relatively high end mom and pop in St. Louis. It took forever to sell. The main issue reported by the sales staff.... 'that's a lot of money for an off-brand speaker'

A friend of his was driving up from New York and was bringing his new Fodera and Bottom Wave basses. My friend and his friend use Aguilar AG500 amps and Aguilar SL 112 cabs. Since that was what they were accustomed to, we all played through that rig (The new Foderas are really nice axes) and all of the basses sounded good. We then decided to give the TecAmp and Glasstone gear a try. We set the Black Jag flat. The guy with the Fodera went first. When he played the first note, we all went "Whoaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa." The host of the gathering said "I need to throw my Sh__t in the trash can," referring to his Aggie gear. They were blown away by the warmth, clarity, the articulation, the controlled mids, the tight bottom, the flexibility of the head, the power and how light it was. Needless to say, they did not want to play the Aggie gear for the remaining 5 hours we shedded. They then, took the Jag and connected it to the AG SL 112's, and they too sounded great with the Jag. It was a very enjoyable experience to hear an MTD AG5, Fodera Emperor, Bottom Wave 5, and a modified Fender Marcus Miller all sound great with this head. No amount of tweaking the AG500 could get it to come close to tone of the Jag. All of us have owned just about everything under the sun, but we all agreed that the Black Jag is something special. Now I know the amps are at different price points, but that is not necessarily the result you get; paying more does not equate to sounding better. Though what "sounds good" is very subjective, we all agreed that the Jag was very impressive and can compete with the top shelf amps on the market. I am not putting down Aguilar gear, I too own the SL cabs, and maybe we would have had a different outcome had they had a DB750 or 751 into DB cabs. but with what was on hand, the Jag was the king of the jungle.

I went from TH500 to the Pumas and haven't looked back. Not that the TH500 isn't a good amp, but to my ears the Puma just has more going on - more open when you want it, can go vintage if you want it, and plenty of juice.

Were you running one or two SL112s? I had a single SL112 and thought it sounded good at low volumes but found it ran out of gas pretty quickly on louder gigs.

Yes, I have two SL's, and they sound great in small to medium sized venues. When you push them they run out of gas and lose all articulation. If I don't know the size of a venue I'll take my LiL'G, which can handle about 1200 watts and is relatively the same size and weighs about 5 pounds more or my Epifani UL S2 410.

Yes, the cab is loaded with two drivers but you can only see one. So from the front it looks like one 12 inch speaker. But it kicks like a mule.

The Lil G is different from the older Schroeders (and the earlier Tech Sound Systems cabs, now Tec Amps) in that while the front driver fires forward, the second driver is mounted at a 90 degree angle to it, mounted firing down into the port. This, coupled with the tiny physical size of the Neo magnets allowed for a relatively tiny cab. As Virgil said, it looks like a 1-12... but it's a whole lot more.

Does anyone know if the Pleasure Pump is still available, and if so, who would sell it?
