Donovan is a really nice guy and in the business of course to earn a living but he is really people focused and will work a deal with you. I intend on doing future business with him for sure.

I use the individual pickup volumes on my bass to control tone, and the Taste knob to account for boomy or anemic rooms.

Run the Puma flat and the adjust the "taste" knob to compensate for the room.
Any other adjustments done on the bass.

I think its fair to say that most of the Puma and Black Jag line of amps sound very much alike right out of the box. I just received the rack bag for my Black Jag 900. It is as light as a feather. I have never had a rack bag and amp weigh so little. Loving it. Next an M210. I tried one at Mike Tobias's shop. He has a TecAmp Puma 1000 as his reference amp. I fell in love with TecAmp gear, after hearing my MTD AG5 through his rig. Perfect. I have been reading that adjusting the lo mid knob works best in accounting for room acoustics. |

I'll sometimes add some hi mids if I'm having trouble cutting in a room, or cut some bass if there is some boom.

I also slightly lower the lo mids to get some scoop (frequency selector on the Jag depends on my mood and my bass). If I drop the low mids, I usually boost the hi mids (same selector switch mentality). The highs are so subtle, I rarely use them, though I will occasionally boost.
I rarely run the compressor above 10 o'clock (it does bring the noise). I also keep the rock setting at 10 o'clock or lower.

POWERMOUTH is my regular band, and we do live vocals, guitar and bass, with back tracks for drums, synth, and backing vocals. Think industrial metal like Rammstein or Static X. For that, I cut the Lomids to get more of a sub/synth sound, and generally run a clean tone. For the jam I had done with these setting, it was an indie rock sound with drums, vox, keys, and one guitar.
I had been using a Nash PB 63 which has a great rock P tone to it, and no issue cutting in the indie rock mix. Clean, but warm. When I switch over to my Dingwall, the same settings don't quite work, leaving me a little thin and punch-less. I tweaked the Tase and the Lomids to try to compensate. It doesn't quite get me there, but it got me a good sound for jamming along on with the stereo on some Southern Rock and Motown tunes, even some more aggressive rock songs (but it was just against a stereo, so mix wasn't much of an issue).

But for breaks for speeches, we played for the entire night. I am telling you this because if you have any questions as to whether new TecAmp gear has over heating issues, I can tell you that they DO NOT. I was running a 4 ohm load, playing high energy dance music, and it never got hot, not even warm. During the last hour we were playing music that required me to play low B's on the B string, and was phat and full, never showed signs of compression. I am really happy with my purchase. |

The small box, and especially if you were using the 'rack bag', resulte in lots of heat, and some failures. Zero issue now with the Jag's and Puma500/900! |

The Puma 900/M212 will be center stage, I'll be interested to hear peoples impressions when they plug into it. Pics to follow!
Here's a pic of my setup from a solo show the other night.. Hard to tell, but its the Puma 900 feeding a pair of VL110s spread apart a few feet behind my seat.. I was in heaven, the sound was killer. The Tecamp makes it almost too easy to get my tone. Pretty much my settings are: power=on

That's a nice sounding rig for sure, but the tecamp rig crushed it in terms of volume, low end fullness, and tone IMO, I'm sure others may disagree. when I crank my rig its amazing how quick the notes fly out of it, especially for being 12's. needless to say, folks were blown away by the tecamp gear, and that's even before i made them lift the m212 with one hand. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
