Tech 21 Landmark 300 Owners. Your Likes/Dislikes

Hey Guys,
I'm trying to find out more about this amp, or more to the point user/owner feedback. What do you like about it? What don't you like about it? 300 watts should be plenty of juice for me so that's not an issue. I know the VT Bass 1969 is supposed to be out at some point but the price on the Landmark 300 is approaching my "comfort zone". I've been using GK stuff for awhile now and just wanted to try something different, so lets talk...
Thank you in advance,
Brent

Hello Brent,

Not exactly owner of this amp, but my friend gigged with it for circa one year before some time (not with original Tech21 cabs).

+ very solid professional construction
+ trouble free DI
+ two separate blendable channels (to some extent, it can do vibe of most famous rock amps.. albeit little zingy and metallic sounding highs in comparison to originals)
+ preamps are very "interactive" to knobs settings
- volume and power
- clean sound at moderate levels (main reason, why he sold it)

Although not extremist regarding last two points, similarly rated amps like Backline 600 or SVT-3 were subjectively much louder and retained clean sound to much higher levels of volume. It is quite important to match some cab with higher sensitivity. As i remember, it was most problematic at small club gigs with one 8ohm 2x10.
To be fair, i could imagine, that someone who likes rock vintage tones, crank drive, midrange presence and plays through some sensitive 4 ohm cab without tweeter can be very happy with volume and tone of Landmark 300.. :-)

Best regards

Michal

P.S. Pure IMO, i'll try Hartke LH500 and combine it with VTBass pedal, if i'd like to get full sounding clean and driven vintage tones. For me very surprising both sound and pricewise.

I've got a Landmark 300 that I run with Bag End S15D and S15XD cabs and a dbx 160x compressor. I'm a weekend warrior guy that plays in your typical bar rock cover band. For me, this amp is awesome! You can get great rock tones o'plenty once you learn how to fiddle with it and the power has always been enough for me.

The secret to this amp is the foot switch that lets you combine ch1 and ch2. The foot switch is a must...but it's about $100 as I recall.

I also have a GK 700rbii. Hopefully I will never have to sell one of my amps because it would be a very very difficult choice!

Let me know if you have any questions and I'll do my best to help

Agreed, the footswitch is key so that you can blend the channels. I have two of the 600's and they produce plenty of juice, so I would expect the 300 to perform very well for it's rating too. The vol taper is very even on the 600 so you can crank it well past noon and it keeps getting louder, so don't misinterpret it as a lack of power at lower settings. They are very well built pieces of gear, and a cool company.

Thank you guys for your replies.
The footswitch is included now with the amp so that isn't an issue.
FooHead you wouldn't happen to have any clips of you playing would you? Is a video demo to much to hope for?
I'm basically looking for a Geddy Lee meets Eddie Jackson somewhat grindy tone.
Brent

The Tech 21 site has some good clips and the manual:
TECH 21 - Landmark 300

My clips are from rehearsals, recorded with 1 mic so they all sound real muddy. I can email you the least muddy sounding one if you like, just send me a pm. The tone I like is deep and rumbly with just a hint of grid...maybe a lil old schooly?

The tone you describe though is very doable with the LM300.

Not loud enough for me when I had it pushing an Avatar 2-12. A hundred watt bxr 15 was louder. It was upsetting.

I have one of my Landmark 600s for sale in the classifieds; it is wicked powerful, and I play LOUD.
