Question TECH HELP!!! AMPEG 410HE BLOWN SPEAKER

Sign in to disble this ad
Today I turned on my rig and to my surprise a speaker is blown in my ampeg 410he! What the hell? I havent played out of the cab in a week(been playing through my amp w/ headphones) and today nothing but distortion and crap. First question, what happened? Second, what are quality replacement parts running for these days? Third, should I even spend the time and money replacing the one speaker or because the cab isnt ported and im sick of it, should I just go ahead and disconnect that speaker and keep playing through the other 3 that still work until I have the cash to buy something that is ported and higher quality. Thanks for the input!

+1. or sell it as is and let someone else deal with it. but don't use it as it is. you'll only blow the other 3.

Can you feel/hear that speakers voice coil dragging (compared to the others) when you carefully push the cones in and out?
I've had loose wire connections (and loose speaker mounting screws) cause speakers to sound blown when they weren't. You might double check yours just to make sure.

You might want to try Fliptops.com for a replacement driver, or US Speaker, or order one from an Ampeg dealer ...what were you powering the speaker cabinet with?, was the cabinet stored in a high humidity environment? you might want to check for air leaks around the speakers, speakers not snugly tightened down will sound like a blown driver ... don't use the cabinet till you figure out what's wrong

That was your problem then. For a whole week it was underpowered!

All joking aside, check each speaker to find if one is rubbing and replace the faulty one. I hope you find it's just one.
