I've tried the AI Coda (series II and III) and the ten2. I wouldn't want to carry the ten2 several blocks and it seems to be out of your price range. But occasionally you can find a series II coda for $4-500 and it would handle your situation. You would need a good cover if you left it in the trunk. Great little combo.

Tried the Ibanez 5110. Good sound but it quit within a few days. Didn't care for the red either. It seemed to be too much amp for the speaker. Would fart out easily.

Tried the AER 1 and 2 at a store. Really, really impressive but really, really expensive. Preferred the 1 over the 2. IMO opinion it would have been worth the $1500 if it could have driven an extension cab. That and another 10 could have probably done most of my gigs.

Same day tried a little Phil Jones of some sort. Not worth it.

I have a GK210MB now and like it. I added some bracing and batting and think it improved the tone. Also painted the grill black. Didn't like the silver. It's probably more than you want to carry at 33lbs. After searching hi and low for a light weight do-it-all I came to the conclusion this was it. Not the best in some categories but the overall winner for price/sound/size/gigabilty.

Not a combo but you might look for a used Euphonic Audio micro/wizzy 10. It has a little backpack and the whole rig weighs about 20lbs. That little 110 cab is pretty sweet. I could max out the micro and it would never fart out. Very clean, solid tone. I got the whole deal around $600.

I didn't carry it this way often but took a picture just cuz I could

On that gig I carried the extension cab but didn't use it. I think it would handle any gig that would be considered small and some medium gigs.

For the majority of my acoustic gigs (especially in NYC) I use a GK MB200 head and a GB ST-8T cab. With cables the rig weighs 13 lbs. DI out lets me use the amp if the venue wants the bass in the FOH. I use mostly with a Tacoma Thunderchief a/e bass, but it does well with my upright, too. Definitely "teeny-but-worth-it".

Thank you. This is something I am interested in getting.

i've played their combos

they do have a certain transparency, and i have great sounding basses, but something about the 10" speaker facing down just annoys me. it's a double bass thing i think, to add coupling with the floor/room to make your acoustic instrument sound louder. for an instrument made to be used with an amplifier i'm not sure if thats a good design. i'm not sure.

my main issue with the AI stuff will be headroom. if the insider deal i can get is good enough, i might go for a bigger model of theirs.. but isint their biggest combo two 10" speakers, one to the floor and one out? its also 2 channels witch is useless to me... and probably a bit heavier than i'd like....

the search goes on. so far i'm seriously looking at the minimark, and the AI stuff. does Euphonic audio make good stuff for this? only briefly played a head/cab combo, i remember thinking it sounded rather nice.

EA made the iAMP 350 Combo, which is a great sounding, but heavy, HEAVY beast. They also made the iAMP 200 Wizzy Combo, which is now discontinued. It was a good bit lighter, but still more than what you're probably looking for.

The EA Micro with a Wizzy 10 (as suggested above) would be a killer rig for you, I think, though of course, not a combo.

I bought an older Euphonic Audio iAmp 350 combo, been using it bout 5 yrs. love it! It's a single 1-10 but like Tom said its a heavy beast. The volume and clarity it puts out amazes people.I also had a EA iAmp 800, and I preferred the 350 over the flagship iAmp 800! Sold the 800, kept The 350. The EA iAmp 350 is very loud and slightly warmer, more pleasant sounding to me. I think I paid $650 for it and still use it. Very close to ordering a Jules Monique bass preamp to go with it.

I have an i300 head, great little unit and very small - would easily fit in a gig bag front pocket. But its not a combo. I use it with a TB 110 that has an eminence driver in it - see this old thread for the you-build-it specifications:

http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f15/low-cost-diy-practice-coffeehouse-tweeterless-110-[long]-736360/

I used this rig last nite for an upright gig. The iamp, cables, preamp, ipad, etc in my backpack and the speaker cab in one hand. If it was an electric gig, I could easily carry this all in one trip for a few blocks.

How does 13 lbs. strike you?

Genz Benz Shuttle STL-8T cab and Gallien-Krueger MB200 head. I put it in an Arriba Cases AC-125 Lighting Fixture Bag. It's surprisingly loud and solid. I've used this setup in smaller rooms for jazz and duo gigs (both EB and URB) and have received compliments on the tone (and questions along the lines of "where's your rig?"). SO easy to transport.

EDIT: RustyAxe, I just saw your post #63... i dig your rig!

AER Amp Three. BIG LOUD SOUND, under 30lbs. You have to try it to believe it. Amp in left hand, bass on back, coffee in right hand. Not cheap, but I'm worth it!

What's your budget?

Unfortunately what would probably work best has been ruled out by your has to be a combo restriction. There are several options that would kill in the tiny head + monster little cab arena IME.

Here's my AI/LDS "combo"... it kills:

If you can get a deal on an AI head, I'd think an airhead setup like this should fit the bill. Sounds great, even with my sixes. The Minimark, while nice, doesn't even come close... but if you do get one I have a nice cover for sale.

Gallien-Krueger MB 112-II

What do you buy when you've just spent all your money on a new bass? This. There are no plans to gig with it. I'll be using it for private rehearsal only. It's just the right height to sit on and play along with YouTube on my computer to learn new songs. The best part is...it has no tweeter!

Don't just glance at Phil Jones. Yeah they have some really tiny combos, but really those don't get the good reviews. Lots for sale though (that says something). Rather, look a little deeper on their website. They have some speakers (non powered) rated at 200 - 300 watts that have 4x5" speakers; some neo and some not. Many of the 2-5 lb micro amps can drive one of those. As others say, carry the head in your gig bag. PJ also has a really funky powered 6x5" cab with (I think) 250 watts. Run a line out from anything into it and you add some serious bottom. Anyway, spend more than a few minutes on the PJ site - some good stuff is not being promoted but it's there.

my vote. i know it technically is a head and cab, but the mounting brackets make it way easy to carry one-handed. plus there are reputable and popular brands making good covers for them= no spoodge from that leaky motor oil, greasy tire iron, saw dust from the firewood, etc... you plan on keeping it in the trunk, ya?

it sounds good and it should easily handle the duties you describe. i don't use the second 10t i have for mine very often. plus, being a little bit older, they can be pretty inexpensive.

Just one more nudge toward separates as a possibility. Putting a micro head in your bass gig bag may let you go just that one notch bigger on your cab without making the carry a pain. The smaller micros just melt into a bass bags pouch slung over your back.

turns out theres a minimark in the classifieds here......

i coulden't help but go for it.

i did not get a chance to play thru one yet, neither of my local GCs has any in stock. but i've read pretty much everything the internet has to offer about them, and they appear to be great amps.

it'll be nice to have something to use for teaching, too. i'm tired of plugging a $4,500 bass into a guitar amp for 6 hours at a time when i teach out of a store.

i'm a little curious to see how much bottom this thing can produce.. 6" speakers seem pretty teeny..

we'll see. i doubt i'll regret it.. had i committed to acoustic image i'd likely be annoyed at the lack of headroom. speakers facing the ground are no favor to electric bass players.

I want to try this amp as well. I rarely bring my bass to lessons when I teach. If I had a 4500 one I would be afraid to.

i usually bring two in my gigbag. often one is a really cheap guitar.. students never get anywhere near my good basses

will report back once i get the amp.

They're pretty surprising for their size. Probably be fine.
