Tell me about my new (old) preamp...SVT IIP

I picked up an 1990 SVT IIP used here on TB. It will be delivered tomorrow and I plan to put it in a rack with my Ampeg B4R and run it through my 810. I read that it was more old school than the SVT Pro and had a good SVT vibe. Just wondering what all the amp gurus think..... will my lowly B4R get any cool points from hanging with the SVT IIP?

Absolutely it will! Ampeg pres were great, but nobody ever bought them, opting for the heads instead.

Thanks Jimmy...I am just gonna PM you my questions from now on....LOL. I am hoping I can run the SVT IIP through the effects loop of the B4R like I did with my Alembic F1-X and my GK... can not wait to get it.... then if I could just figure out how to run the B4R bridged mono into my 4ohm 810.....

You need a speakon made to bridge an amp. There's instructions easily found on the net for switching yours around...pretty simple and you only need a screwdriver.

I think I am OK with that part...it is the back of the stupid B4R that has my fused.

I just picked up a SVT-IIp , I love it so far. Really deceiving when you look at it. The pallet of tones available there are pretty wild. Any one care to share some settings? Any opinions on a power amp (tonal character?)? or are they pretty much similar (except for rating of course)? After playing it through 15's I'm really GAS ing on getting an 8x10, From what I hear through the 15's this thing would be a beast through an SVT.

The SVT-IIP has always intrigued me, maybe if I throw my back and can't carry my SVT I'd make the jump.

I have both an SVT-IIP and and SVP-PRO. The IIP doesn't have all the bells and whistles of the PRO (no effects loop or extra Drive channel) but mine has a noise floor that noticably lower than the PRO (though that could be the tubes) . If you don't use an effects loop or run the drive control, there isn't a lot of difference in the sound between the two.
