TH + LMIII + UL = Heaven

I've been running an LMIII into Epi UL cabs for awhile now, typically a 1x15 paired with 1x12 or 2x10, and experiencing mild dissatisfaction with the low-mids on this rig. The UL cabs are known to be polite in this region and the LM's low mid knob is centered too high to fill the gap; this has been discussed a lot on TB.

I love everything else about this rig - the lows are huge, all I could ever ask for, I can dial in the high end perfectly, and the LM gives me a wonderful combination of old school warmth and modern tightness.

I've been thinking for awhile about trying a Tone Hammer pedal with this rig, and finally got around to it on the gig this past weekend. It was the final piece of the puzzle. The sweepable mid-boost on the TH allowed me to boost just the right frequencies to fill the void in the Epis. I was running the LMIII and Tone Hammer controls flat - the only tone shaping was a 2:30 boost on the Tone Hammer's mids, with the frequency towards the lower end of the sweep (dialed to taste). It was easy to switch the TH in and out, to compare the effect. The difference was astounding. Totally loving this rig now.

Nice resolution...

Big fan of the LMII/III I'm usually flat right into either a Acme B2 or AE410 (I usually add a little VPF if I'm using the Acme but not much) maybe 9 O clock.

Yeah, the Bergs are supposedly a better match for the LM. I just love the Epi's for their weight (S1's) and huge, clear low end.

I was planning on getting a Tone Hammer anyway. I love the tone shaping on the OBP-3 in general, and like the idea of having one around as a backup solution (direct to the house). The fact that it solves my rig issue as well is a nice plus.

I found the Tone Hammer to be a great matchup with my Markbass F1 -- the sweepable mids made up for the F1's lack in this department, and the treble control complements the Markbass's nicely as well. And grit for miles if you need it. The TH has pretty much been relegated to second backup since I got the RH450, but I won't get rid of it -- it's a great DI for really small gigs where I can get away with just using foldback from the PA.
