Thank you JimmyM! Many steaks, beers and womens for you!!

After reading some of your other posts on other threads about EQing Ampegs I have found new life in my SVT-350!! Its just that this beat up cab of mine can't handle it. I was always afraid that when the peak light near the gain came on that I was in danger of hurting the amp. Also I use to just adjust the EQ with cranked lows, highs and moderate mids.

I didn't realize how much difference the low end was effected by the highs, when the highs were cranked. So I pulled them down and BOOM!

Also is it bad if my peak light comes on a lot while pushing the the gain? Will it hurt the amp? Cause I think it would really be cool to push it and get some overdrive out of the amp...I am just paranoid about that little red light. Would it be bad to push the gain to like 7 or 8 and keep it lit like a Christmas tree?

I am excited now I have learned how to really EQ this amp and I can get some really good SVT style of tone with it!! Thanks JimmyM where ever you are!!

Right now I am only pushing 200 out of 350 watts. If I had two decent 4x10's. This thing would sing!!

I love this board!

Agreed - JimmyM is the man. The peak light is just letting you know that you're there - at the peak - don't go any further and don't stay there for long times. In fact, I have an '83 Crate rig that's head has 3 graduated peak lights. Lighting the first one means to add more gain (says so right there on the head) - the second is the maximum light and the third one is the red light, meaning like a redline on your tach in your car, your're maxed out, do not proceed further. In fact, the colors for the lights are yellow - green and red. Ideally, the yellow and green stay light while the red flickers from time to time. I also have a SVT 350 and the same thing is true with it. Set it to where the peak light flickers on and off from time to time telling you that you pushing it, but not past it's limit. You'll be pleased when you add a second cab and get the fullness and volume that it's capable of. My SVT 350 is matched to the 1510 HE cab. It has 1-15 and 4-10s. I then add a early 70's B25B 2-15 cab with the optional Altec 421A speakers. What a great combo!

very much appreciated, guys! but i have a confession...like you, i've learned a hell of a lot by reading what some of the way more educated folks on here have to say. i'm hardly in their league...i just remember what they say

tuep, it shouldn't hurt your amp at all to crank it like that as long as it doesn't overheat, and if it does overheat, the protection circuit should go into thermal shutdown, so i say crank!

Yeah, we like him! Hell, I already owe him a six-pack. I got some Moose Drool from Montana in the ice box now. Wonder if it would stay cold from Oregon to Florida?!

OK, Jimmy, since we're on the EQ-ing subject here, any personal tips for the VR (not trying to hijack the thread...)? Gigging tonight with it. Just curious. I mean, it rocks now, but any tips for it would also be mucho appriciated.

Hey, Jimmy M taught me how to use the mid-point selector switch on my B15R. Completely changed how I use that amp. What's up Jimmy?

Yikes. Another JimmyM appreciation thread?

Okay, having said that... He is one the the very few prime movers on TB. He generally appears in only those threads where his expertise counts. He's right most of the time.

Oh, okay, I'll pitch in for the beer, too.

I'm seeing a lot of offers of steaks and beers; not too many for the "womens".

How ya feelin', Jimmy?

well i guess i missed your gig...sorry but i was flying. but for the vr, i've found that you can get pretty close to flat response by going treble 2:00, bass 11:00, and mids 3:00 @ 800hz. i generally will give it a little extra shot of bass from that and back off the mids from that ever so slightly.

thx again guys! i appreciate you guys, too!

I'm also in for perpetuating the JimmyM legend!

I'd like to take it a step further, however, and add some hyperbolic anecdotes worthy only of JimmyM:

"I heard that Tech21 sampled JimmyM snoring when they modeled the VT Bass algorithm!"

"When JimmyM visits his family for Thanksgiving, his nephew's 1x10 Roland Cube suddenly extends down to 32hz while Jimmy is in the house!"

....proceed (All in good fun, JimmyM is the tits!)
