Replace them with the exact same speakers. Cabinets are designed around speaker parameters, so it's best to use what the cab is made for.

Would be helpful to know what cabinet and what speakers. SOme of the Peavey speakers -- especially the higher end ones -- allow you to change out just the speaker baskets and use the OEM magnet assemblies. A potential cheaper option than replacing the whole speaker if you wanna stay stock.

That said, I'm sure you could find something just as good or better. Eminence Deltas, Betas, or Deltalites would all be nice. To make sure they'll work in your cab, we're still gonna have to know what cab you have. Ported/vented? Sealed? Specific speakers? All would be most helpful for the best recommendation.

In line with what Warrior Bass said, if we know the size of the box, parameters can be calculated using WinISD for all sorts of replacements....

Often times less expensive to have original reuilt than replaced, plus - like Warrior and dcr indicate - you know they work in that cab.

Depending how and where exactly on the speaker he 'poked holes', and depending on how hard you plan to push the speakers, you might be able to just patch the holes in the cones (I've used rubber cement and used dryer sheets) and keep on truckin'!!!

Didn't some guitarist do this back in the 50's for one of the earliest distortion tones? Maybe your son is on to something here.

Rubber cement and toilet paper or Kleenex works too!

Roy Buchanan. Yes, his son would be an innovator 50 years ago

I remember reading somewhere that Geezer Butler's rig he used to record Sabbath's first album had 3 of 4 speakers malfunctioning/torn. I'm sure thousands of bassists have chased that tone, when the answer has been in the damaged speakers all along!

The BlackWidows have replacement baskets but I don't think there are 10" models that do. Reconing or replacement is an option although most decent 10" replacements come in 8ohm giving you the options of a 4 or 16ohm 210.

OP, I'd be curious to see how bad the damage is. I've glued together speakers before that have had 4-5 years of regular use with no problems but it really depends on what type of damage, where on the cone and how much damage/how many tears or holes.

shoe goo, is tougher and heavier than rubber cement, but it'll never sound the same with the repair. i vote new speakers or a whole new cab that you keep out of reach from the kid and use the repaired one for home practice and around the kid.

A lot of the time, the holes aren't just "opened up" but rather have the torn piece folded back. If you can get at them from the back of the speaker, you can fold them back shut, glue a little piece of drier sheet/tissue paper/rolling paper on the back and put more glue one the front. Superglue works on the actual cone....use rubber cement or silicone gasket maker if it's by or in the surround. Stays flexible when it dries. If it's on the dustcap, it can be tough to fix although I have carefully sliced out dustcaps with a razorblade and glued on replacements.

If the hole is in the small dome, that's just a dust cover for the center part of the cone, and doesn't 'technically' do anything for or against your sound. Theoretically, you don't need the dust cover on the speaker at all.

Do the speakers still work? Do they sound the same, but just have a hole in them? Consider just leaving them be if they're not distorting.

Otherwise, ANY amplifier repair place can remove/replace/or patch a dust cover for cheap.

Hey! Just thought of this...for a set of cheapo replacements, look to Dave at Avatar. The Celestion TF1020's that he sells for $39 each are teriffic! I've jujst been playing thru my 1x10 I built using a set ans was reminded how great they sound.
(pssst...look for his sales on eBay. I paid less for mine out there)

Won't beat the price with nuthin' that good.

Someone like circuitshop.com could probably rebuild them for around $50 each.
