Thats it!! New rig needed. Need some suggestions

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey everybody. So I am finally scrapping my old rig and starting fresh. I need something that can play venues up to 1000 to 1500 people. It needs good low end and lots of volume.

I need something that can run 2 cabs. I need cab recommendations as well. Due to lugging the equipment up from the basement 1 large 8x10 or something is not an option. I currently am running a 4 ohm Aguilar 2x12 that I would like to keep, but if I have to go to 8 ohm, I will sell it.

Budget wise, I was thinking something in the $1500 range for head + cabs. Your thoughts?

Thanks,

Crown amps sound so good.

I'm a believer. Here's mine.

Mine is a little small for 1500 people, depending on the PA system.

Heck, you may get by with a practice amp if you can depend on a
good sound system.

I used other PA amps. But the Crown was a game changer.

Crowns are great for the money.

There's a frequently updated list of 2-ohm capable heads on this forum that would be worth checking out, so you could get your Aguilar cab a twin. Of course, the power amps like the Crown are mostly 2-ohm capable, too.

I'll take a cue from tombowlus (see link) and recommend a used Carvin B1500 (or B2000) + a pair of fEarful 15/6/tweet cabs or Avatar TB153 cabs. The B1500 is 1900 watts RMS at 2Ω.

Best cabinet/cabinets to fill a room

Being a big fan and owner of MarkBass gear that would be my suggestion.

I have a MarkBass Berlin 115 combo with the NY 115 ext cab, its small, lightweight and works great for bigger venues.

My second suggestion,, Carvin.

Just my 2 cents.

Cheers

1500 for all new stuff isnt that much of a budget. most of your money will be spent on cabs if your buying new.

what kind of amp are you looking for? a tube amp, solid state, class d? what size speakers do you like?

You can pick up an older SWR bass 750 and Big Bertha for that amount and will be happy!

I was going to say pretty much the same thing. For not a lot of money you can get plenty of volume and tons of low end with the right cab to go with it.

1500 folks, with no FOH???

Yikes. You'll need some GEAR.

With decent FOH, a pair of 2x12's will work. Get a 2nd Ag 2x12 to match yours, and a good head that will do 2ohms.

What's the head you have now for your Aggie? You may even find it gives you what you need with a pair of 8 ohm cabs (assuming it's not 2 ohm rated).

Hey guys,

Currently running an Eden Wt1000 and Eden Navigator. The power amp keeps breaking on me though :/ I've been through the ringer with it. Our FOH system varies, so I was looking to have some stability, and definitely add a 2nd cab to the mix.

Would 2x 8 ohm cabs be a better solution than 2x 4 ohm?

Also, thanks for all of the recommendations on the heads, please keep them coming. I loved the Markbass SD 1200, but it wouldnt work with my cab :/

This. I played around on a similar Markbass rig recently and it was way loud and sounded great. Too bad I couldnt afford it.

Agreed. A fEarful 15/6 or two and good amount of power would be my choice. If your on a budget that avatar version would do well.

2 8 ohm cabs on one channel will give you a 4 ohm load on the amp. 2 4ohm cabs give you a 2 ohm load....

If the head you get will do 2 ohm, that leaves you more choices on cabs. if it will be 4 ohm then you will probably only get two 8 ohm cabs on the channel. So, you would have to choose wisely.
two 2x10@8 ohm for light weight moving.
two 4x10@8 ohm for more volume, a tad heavier to move, see where we're going...

simple but there will be more recommendations coming as there is a wide variety of combinations to ponder over....
