Sorry about asking this twice, I just didn't get any help the 1st time. I have a Marshal Micro stack MS-2, it sounds fine with my tele but sounds awful with any of my basses (gets distorted on the clean channel and the speaker cracks at any note lower than C). My budget is about 40 pounds (65 dollars). *there (sorry). It has to be battery powered because I'm going busking (lol)

There are good battery-powered amps, but not for $65!!

I use a Pocket Rocket for bass, it plugs right into the jack input and you get headphones with it, an alternative to an amp.

If you use a 12VDC to 120VAC power converter it opens up your choice of amps. Just sayin'.

If you've got an ipod touch, ipad, or iphone you could check into the irig or peavey amplink kit. It's an adapter you plug into your device, and with the help of an app you've got yourself a micro amp. You can also download different "amps" and effects. I hear they're not bad for the $29 price tag. Or if you browse around your local pawnshops you might find a good deal on a small amp.

+1 on the amplink kit. Then run it into something like this:
Vintage Magnavox Power Player Ghetto Blaster Boom Box | eBay

Make sure it has a line in. I know this does, because I have one, and no I haven't plugged a bass into it, yet....

Haven't heard a micro-amp yet that does any justice to bass sound. Even 8" speakers I've tried start to distort when you try to play with any real volume.

But I'd love to hear if anyone has a good recommendation!

Based on your choice of words, I would guess that you are in the UK, not the US, so I don't know what's available there.

The Pignose Hog-30 is a battery-powered 30-watt bass amp with an 8" speaker which would work if you're playing as a street musician. Price here in the U.S. is about $160. It's available through multiple Internet retailers such as Musicians Friend and Guitar Center, and Musicians Friend will ship them to the UK.

Another couple of amps you might try are the Electro Harmonix 22 Caliber and 44 Magnum stomp-box amps. These are battery-powered guitar amplifiers the size of an effects pedal, which can play through a small speaker cabinet. The 22 Caliber goes for about $107, and the 44 Magnum for about $145.

If you can carry an extension cord and find an electric outlet to plug into, the Peavey Max 158 is an AC-powered bass practice amp which provides decent volume and reasonable tone, loud enough for practicing with a small jazz group for example. Price here in the U.S. is about $100 new. (It used to be known as the Peavey Microbass, and one can sometimes find those used for $50 to $60.)

Good luck finding something that will work for you.

Finding what you've described for $65 is a tall order, even for used gear. The Pignose has been mentioned... the Crate Taxi and Matthews Freedom amp are a couple others I recall; both out of production.

If I had to come up with something at this price, I think I would look for a practice guitar amp with a blown power supply; something less than 20w, preferably with a 12" speaker, that I could pick up for next to nothing. I'd make a battery case, and cobble a connection to the old power supply rails. Seal the speaker cabinet... done.

What you're wanting will be a hard order to fill, regardless of price.
In order to play outdoors and be heard cleanly, you need an amp with some real power (not 15-20w), and a heavy duty speaker. Otherwise, you're looking at practice quality amps, and they're going to distort when pushed loud .

Given all that, it has to be battery powered too? Then it needs to be $60-$70?

Got me stumped!

best suggestion is a hand truck/car battery/power inverter/any bass combo you want but as stated for 65 buckd you are asking for a bit much..
