Is there anything better than 1x15 Mesa Boogie Road Ready?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi I have two 1x15 Mesa Boogie Road Ready on EV speakers. They sound great with MB 400+. I just wondering is there any better 1x15 cab on the market???
How would you compare it to Bag End for example.

I think it ends up being personal preference. I played 1 aguilar GS 115 for two years and loved it, I was using it as a single cab for funk, r and b and pop and it worked great. I switched back to a 410 though and it replaced the 115.

Try a fEarful 15-6 and get back to me. No other 15 comes close.

there are many cabs of similar quality with aspects you might like more, but I'll just come out and say "no, there is not a better 1x15 on the market"

I think it depends on what you are looking for. The Mesa 15" with an EV 15" driver has a distinct midrange voice. You can not eq that tone into a fEaRfUl.
OTOH the Mesa cabs dont output a lot of sub lows which more modern cabs/drivers are capable of. They do sound perfect for my uses though which is why I have a single and dual 15" mesa cab.
I suppose I will have to get around to building or having built for me a FeArFuL someday, just to see what all the fuss is about. I'm sure it's a very nice cab, but no cab, not even a Mesa 15" RR, is a panacea.

As far as cabs that are "as good as" the mesa.
I had an Eden 15 with no tweet that was very nice. The Bagend 15" cabs are very good as well. Dietz cabs, if you can find them, are similar in tone.

Frankly you said you know in all certainty, followed by you admitting that you do NOT know diddly ; } ... Which is why commenting on this over and over is ludicrous. Are you going to take every single other brand/suggestion other posters offer up and do the same thing?

Sometimes unthoughts are better left unspoken.

Here's another recent thread hitting some similar points:

Orange OBC 115 ... OR ... Bag End S15B-D?

It's always more useful to state:

What gear are you playing through it?
Do you like the sound you get now?
What would you like to be different about the cabinet?
What type of music do you play?
What type of places do you play in?

I had a Mesa 215 Roadready for years and loved it...not sure why I sold it, but I'm on the lookout for another someday, mostly for nostalgia's sake, as I'm totally satisfied with my current gear.

All depends on what you like. Personally, I like my GK 115RBH.

Regarding my question.
For me Mesa Boogie works very good. Im trying to play style like Nomeansno, Victims Family and little bit of Primus. Dense, fast playing on loud volume, mostly fingers bat also slap, and chords.
Just wanted to ask if there is really big difference between MB and some custom built cabs.

Larry Boothroyd used to rock a 400+ & rr 2x15. Rob Wright used to play an acoustic 456 & 106(2x15). Early primus was an ADA mp1 into some EV 2x15+mid cabs. The only similarity is 15" cabs. Different basses even. I do think the Mesa 15 does that best. Notwithstanding cabs that aren't sold in stores which you must commission or build yourself. So yeah out of retail, commercially available cabs, the best!

To my knowledge Larry is using Mesa Boogie 400 non plus. And nowadays he uses two 1x15 Diesel Cabs insted of 2x15 RR. Les Claypool was using lot of stuff, but probably his most popular setup was 2x Mesa Boogie 400+, and Ampeg SVTIII in one rack, plus lots of cabs including 1x15 RR.

Yeah, it depends on which era of these bands you talk about. Last time I saw nomeansno he was using a Marshall (superbass?) & a 15" cab that could have been a bagend. I have also seen Larry play with a 2-18 and 4-10 RR. I would say his tone is a lot cleaner then Rob's and far bassier than Rob or Les.

Actually Rob is using for years Marshall, but its not Superbass ( I ve had it few years ago ) but some old SS which name I dont remember right now. Lets say that Larrys sound is the best for me from these three examples, not to mention bass skills. But he has specific luthiers danelectro type longhorn bass, which is really nice but has totally different sound to my Stingray. Funny thing that his setup sounds completely different from album to album.

As greenboy pointed out, if you like the tone of those cabs, check out the Bag End and Orange cabs. They have similar voicings.

I think that Orange might be little bit too vintage. You know I like to have lots of low and high feq at the same moment and suppose that Orange might be little bit of muddy in comparison to Mesa.

The BE will have more highs than the Orange, and likely the Mesa as well.

Are you talking about this cab model specifically?

If so, it really depends on the driver load (which is kinda subjective anyway, but many of those had one or two specific EV and Eminence loads I think, over the years). But the main point is that it and the Orange are both TL606 clone enclosures so are largely the same functionally. Same internal space, same tuning. So you can do a fair amount of retrofitting with any TL606 to get where you want to go.

Yes Sir. And mine is loaded with 15L EV.
I heard that it has more hights than 15B, and I really don think it sounds similar to Orange.
