Is there a way to measure frequency response when playing live through a cabinet?

im not up to date on all the scientific stuff. i just know what sounds good to my ears. however, gas is kicking in and i want to find out why certain cab setups sound good to me and what frequencies sound good to my ear.

what im thinking is with this information, i can build a cab that suites my needs both aurally and on paper.

how would you go about doing this?

im pretty happy with my mesa carbine/fearful setup but im really curious about building a cab around what i hear and what would sound best to me

Cabs are measured with frequency sweeps, giving a response chart. An experienced designer can duplicate the response of a measured cab, but for the inexperienced it would be a daunting task.
