Thinking About Swapping Out The Speakers and Preamp In My Combo I have a Peavey 210TX combo amp that I'm thinking about doing some work on. Playing alone in my basement I keep the pregain dimed out and the postgain at around 10 o'clock so I have some concerns about it being loud enough for a gig. It's also about 100 lbs so carrying it around isn't easy. If possible I was thinking about removing some of the weight. Ideally I'd want to swap in a Mesa amp head and Celestions but I won't kill myself if that doesn't happen. Anybody try this before or have any advice? Thanks! |
Swapping out speakers that are not designed for the cab can be a crapshoot at best. They may sound good, or could sound bad. You need to model the cabs internal measurements with the T/S specs of the speakers to see what/if any modifications need to be done. Also, it is still only a 2X10 cab. Depending on the style of music your playing, it may not be enough no matter what size amp or speakers you use. |
