thinking of adding a Gallien-Krueger 112MBX

I have a Gallien Krueger MB 150 S and love it for practice, acoustic gigs, and lighter jam sessions. Very tight sound for my fretless basses. I am considering buying a Gallien-Krueger 112MBX to add to this thinking I will get the same sound only louder for band gigs. I have an old gray Ampeg B-15 bottom with a JBL in it that I use for an extension now. This adds a lot of bottom and a great sound but it is a little too spread, if you know what I mean. Does anyone have experience with the Gallien-Krueger 112MBX and the MB 150s together? By the way, I have a Furman 3 band parametric EQ/preamp that I send to a old QSC power amp and then to the B-15 bottom. Great sound but heavy to move and I am afraid it will die on me. Why is everything so hard?

I have a MB150 head and the MBX cab. Adding another MBX cab will indeed get you what you seek - the same sound only louder. Hard to beat the portability.

thanks

Is it loud enough to get play a moderate size club with a drummer? Everyone keeps talking watts and using these big cabinets. Aren't we past all that? Isn't that what the PA's are for? The GK MB150S has a direct out that I used with a lot of success in the studio. Direct to the board from this should be enough. Whats is the power stuff?

I think it would be sufficient if you have PA support. The main thing with these cabs is, due to their relatively small size, they're limited as to how much air they can move. As long as the band's stage volume isn't overly loud, you should be good to go.

Gallien-Krueger 112MBX

Hi,

So did you end up getting one? What are thoughts?
How's it working for you?

Thanks

I am still looking into this. I just saw the Hartke Hydrive 1 12 and would like to try that but none of the stores seem to carry anything that I want to try. I am looking for the GK 112MBX used. I saw a couple but they were priced at $250 and don't see the point buying used over new at that price.

I bought my MBX to go with my MB150S at least 4 years ago and they were a ridiculous price of nearly $500Cdn at the time.....I've used mine maybe twice, once at a practice and once at a gig in a bar.....We had PA support and I had great sound on the stage and everyone heard me....I bought a Markbass combo and I'm not using the GK's anymore......They do sell for $299US + shipping but it's really frustrating to sell something that cost $500 use it twice then have to sell it for $200 so I just keep it amongst all my gear unless you want to pay $300 for it?

I just got a GK 210 mbx and a GK 115 MBX, sure they're cheap, probably not the best.. But, I'm a speaker nut, I don't need them,, I WANTED them. Priced just right, light, portable, sounds pretty good(shut off the tweeters)

The 210 was cheap with a 20% coupon from MF and the 115 even less with a 20% coupon(a returned item at MF).

Just wanted more options. I wish my 2 GK MB200 were in stock( one is a replacement/warranty).

Wish I'd never bought mine......Got it new at least 5 years ago and only used it twice and I paid almost $500 for it....the price sure has come down to the point where it's useless for me to sell it.......
