thinking of buying an acoustic brand amp

Sign in to disble this ad
i am a hobbies not a pro and i am hoping to get back in the music game as a weekend warrior. the amp i have right now is a gk backline 300 into a gk sbx115. the backline is a little lackluster, no personality. and the speaker in the cab is starring to go. i have looked into fixing the cab but the replacement cost more than the cab does. not to mention i have loss my faith in gk over there lack of customer service. so i am thiking of Acoustic as a good low budget amp. i have read some good and some not so good about these amps and was wondering what are some experiences you all have had with them. i am talking about the new china made not the new american made ones. or maybe even used for that mater. the key is budget 1 to 2 cab set up with a 400ish watt amp. thank you

what would that run me cause i can get a head and two 15 cabs for 900ish or 2 410's for about 1200. i would like two cabs just cause when i played out before i was never ever headed over the guitarists mesa trip-reck through 410 set up. mined you i really don't plane on needing to fight that sort of monster rig in the music i wish to play now.

I bought a b200h and a neo cab for travel sake. Acoustic will get the job done... and well. But Ampeg's tone cannot be matched, they set the standard.

went to the shop today and i discovered something rather nice. it's not my head that is lackluster but rather my cab the head through other brand cabs are quite neat o. played an ampeg 810 very cool but the acoustic 810 thou not as good as the ampeg was still round and punchy. thou not as sturdy as the ampeg "not going to ask it to go around the world" i'm buying the acoustic 810

You could also look for vintage Acoustic. My brother's 360/361 rig is amazing. They're just different. I'm not a complete tube snob but I prefer at least a tube preamp stage but his rig sounds fantastic. They're also just really weird in how they work. Very cool amps, imho, and given John Paul Jones, Jaco, Entwistle, etc used them in the 70s, they were pretty well regarded.

Caveat emptor: I use an Ampeg rig.....

When it comes to amps, always buy more power than you think you need. Go with the Ampeg cab, not the acoustic. The new acoustic stuff is very cheaply made in my opinion. I personally like the 6x10 ampeg cab better than the 8x10 cab.

makes perfect sense. Its always better to have a nice speaker/cab with an ok head than to have a nice head and a crap speaker/cab.

i din't think the acoustic was all that crappy. besides the ampeg is made right next door to acoustic so all your paying for is a metal jack plate and a name theirs is not a 400 dollar differences in the cab construction or tone wise. a vintage acoustic would be grate but that is a little hard to come by and i am not bying off ebay inless i can play it first

I think you misunderstood me.

but now that you've said what you said. Objectively speaking, Two products being made in the same factory doesn't mean they are the same quality. The specs for the products are likely very different and the tolerances for quality and/or consistency could be very different.
