Thinking of a different head

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello all.. I have a Traynor YBA 200 Tube head that has to upgraded to YBA 200-2 specs. The work was done by Traynor. Now as much as I like this head,I find it a bit laking in the power out put. So my local music store has a Peavey Bamhead for sale,,but I can't find out much info on the internet or the T.B. Forums (Yes,,I did do a search). The Pervey is rated at 500 watts @ 2 ohms,,,and 350 watts @ 4 ohms,,and has lots of ways to mod your sound. Now any one have one of these and are they a decent bass head? Or where they a "flash in the pan"?? Thoughts please. Laurence.(Laurie)

Well I guess that the Peavey Bamhead must be a "flash in the pan" No one has said a word about it. I guess no love for the Peavey?

What spkr cab are you using with the Traynor? Usually, more spkrs are the best way to increase volume- and besides, what about your tone?

I saw some reviews on the Bam head here:

Basses: BAM Head by Peavey | Harmony Central

If you are wanting to go from tube to solid state and want modeling features, it would fit the bill.

If you are wanting to stay with a tube head, keep a look out for the Peavey VB-2 all tube head which I highly recommend and has plenty of power.

Thanks for the reply. Right now with the Traynor I am using (two) Fender Rumble 1x12(neo) with tweeters rated at 250 watts each. I have been away from playing for years so I am kind of new to all this stuff

I'd stick with the traynor, not familiar with the peavey head, but Traynors have great tone and your 200 tube watts should easily be able to beat a 500w solid state amp, especially one that requires you to use a 2 ohm load.

My vote is for buying a more efficient speaker set up for the amp you have now. If weight is an issue I'd stick with a cab with neo speakers, but maybe look into buying 2 210 cabinets, or a 410, or larger!

Avatar is a good place to start, very good prices for the quality and they have a nice neo line.
